Tech heresy is mostly the use or creation of non STC technology (reffered to as 'heretech')

Picking up a shuriken Catapult and using it is tech heresy, but fairly minor. Designing and building a completely new gun is highly heretical. Creating a full AI is perhaps the most heretical thing possible.

However - Mars is actually fairly pragmatic on this front.

The Black Templars created a new kind of non-STC Land Raider. That's tech heresy. However - by the time Mars found out, the Templars and a boatload of other chapters had dozens of the things and they loved them.

The chapter is banned from receiving new equipment because of some Insult/tech heresy they performed. All ties they had with the Ad. Mech are cut.

The inquisition doesn't Excommunicate them because they are still a very loyal chapter.

so after the years they are slowly dwindling down in full battle brothers. they have a large contingent of scouts, but lacking on the power armour.

so any help/idea?

It really does seem quite hard for a loyal chapter to piss off the admech.

The Bluhd Angels found a new STC design and refused to share it AND glued nipples to their armour (I don't care what you believe, that's some kind of heresy) and yet the admech still like them enough to give them the stormraven...

The black Templars built a new kind of tank and the admech said 'okie dokie'.


Perhaps your chapter accidentally destroyed an newly discovered STC printout - or simply failed to prevent its destruction?

Or if you're just looking for an excuse to ditch the Power Armour - then say your chapter's geneseed has recently undergone a mutation and now lacks the Black Carapace.

Older marines can still wear Power Armour - but anyone inducted after that mutation cannot. however just think of it like a catholic church from the days of Alexandria. if it doesn't fit into what they think serve's god they burn it and kill anyone who doesn't agree with what they believe is right.

Will also add to this point that Chapters send their TechMarines off to Mars to be trained in revering the Machine Spirit as well as maintenance because without them the warmachines and weapons of the Chapter would fall to disrepair.

This is also how the various Leman Russ variants become STC variations. You left out the part about the Blood Angels modifying their motors so their vehicles go faster.
It's because they're Space Marines and GW loves them too much.
Fluffwise they should have been stomped to hell and back for the STC, but they're marines so it's fine and they can continue their Tech Heresy

I'm kind of finding it harder and harder to belive that the BA should still be considered a loyalist chapter. They go crazy like Khorne Marines after a while and continue to perform Tech Heresy quite regularly. I'm actually surprised the Inquisition hasn't found out about their mutations (Red Thirst and something else, can't remember either name properly) and started to hunt them down.

Just say that they're on a long campaign and are forced to manufactor their own equipment on their ships as they go.
As if they're cut off from Ad Mech they'll run out of ammo. Just have some forges or something on their ships, Power Armour being too difficult to manufactor on them, yet they can still keep the few suits they have in running order.

I think the Ad Mech is basically forced into providing for the SM by the treaty they had (probably still have) with Terra making them pretty much the Blacksmiths of the Imperium in exchange for the Emperor's protection. So they might have to still provide until the Chapter is declared heretical by the right person. Another option would be that they're in an isolated area and they have to rely on forges on the Chapter Planet as there is no Forge Worlds nearby to make the stuff for them. OP: Perhaps one of your chapter's tech marines went off the deep end (corrupted by chaos or just plain nuts) and sabotaged a large amount of your power armour.

Power Armour is very difficult to make and most chapters don't have much in the way of spares. If they suddenly lost even a couple of hundred suits it could taken them decades or longer to replace.

they are on a crusade to hunt down corrupted machine spirits for the ad. mech and stc who are in exchange breaking alot of rules to try and uncorrupt their gene seed. so lots of space hulk exploring.

They do not revere the machine spirit like Iron hands or Techpriests do. so its not out of holy fervor. Its a Im only doing this so I can get gak fixed mentality.

how does that sound? if anyone can come up with some finer details that sound good I'd love the help. I have the basic idea's now.

The scouts will be a kit bash, Scout legs and arms, Chaos warriors upper torso's and the cape's and then Pig Iron helmets.
