This is the first match I saw, last time it was on I was busy playing Confrontation. Obviously I was missing nothing if tonights performance was anything to go by. The match was entertaining only as a matter of disbelief at how utterly crap the England team are playing.
I am no football officionado but even I could tell that something was amiss. The Algerians, yes Algerians were dancing around England players who looked painfully clumsy.

Defensively we weren't too bad appart from Johnson who looked to be struggling with some of the pacier Algerian players. For me Barry and Carragher were our best players on the night and credit has to go to the Algerians for not allowing us to pick up an easy win with a poor performance.
I still don't think we have anywhere near a good enough team to go past the quarter finals. Thats if we are lucky enough to get there and judging by Slovenia's performances we wont.

Come on England, you can and should be doing better, show some respect and pride for your supporters and the country you represent. Actually, I'll feel gutted if that happens. The USA have been the most entertaining team to watch so far; i really hope they get to the knockout stages at the expense of England (who have been the prozac of the World Cup so far).

What should happen now is beat Slovenia 1-0, face Germany play a blinder and loose. Thats the way world cups always play out.

But even by England's group stage standards that was an abomination, so lazy no desire to chase after the ball. Constantly giving it away and just giving up when they did. Rooney was shocking, particularly when he let an Algerian toe poke of a clearance slowly roll past him in the box while he stood there like some balding over-priced statue.

Correct. But i was making reference more to the side effects of Prozac; which include depression, suicidal tendencies, and a weird belief that you can make your gak of a life into something better just by popping a pill (reading the Sun).

They were so unlucky with the disallowed goal.
Can't see England beating Slovenia on current form so it's up to them to beat Algeria, which they should be capable of.

If both games are drawn, that puts USA and England on 3 points, but haven't seen the tables, but at present USA have scored more goals.

If Algeria win and England draw, Algeria will go through.

Just because we have a load of good players doesn't mean we won't play well, many other teams have many great players and still work together. We've had plenty of time to prepare for the world cup, but they haven't showed us the team they can be, and have been in training and practice.

Rooney stayed on as he's England's talisman, he's almost certainly our best player and definately our best striker. I can understand leaving him on, but I can equally understand substituting him, the problem is, we rely too much on this one man, if he gets man-marked then we have a problem.

What I really don't get is Capello's reluctance to change things. It was clear it wasn't working after the 1st half but he doesn't change anything. Worst of all, he puts Gerrard on the right?! He's our captain and best midfielder and he's on the right?!

I think one of the better solutions would be swapping out Lampard (constantly crap) for Joe Cole and then moving Gerrard back into the centre to play more attacking whilst Barry covers the defence.
Similarly, now Carragher's gonna miss the next game, so I reckon Dawson who has a bit more speed and a good long ball, should replace him.

Many have questioned this. IMHO it may be that it worked at club level where the players are work together more often and have greater familiarity with each others' play.

At International level with a lot of players not regularly playing together it is not such a good idea.

The problem is not the ability to pass a long ball, Dave. Though it sure helps. This tourney ball is hard to hit over distance accurately by the sound of it. But some passing ability would be no bad thing.

A problem England always seem to suffer from is playing the ball long from defence or just hoofing clearances up field. The teams that do well have the ability to play the ball to midfield with composure, even under pressure.

It is the same old story with England. Listening on the radio, it was a constant litany of: poor first touch, poor pass, poor cross, the ball didn't get past the first man, poor finishing, poor delivery from set pieces. Our technical ability is just not good enough on an individual level. When you couple that with the lack of understanding between players and apparent lack of passion we ain't got a chocolate's chance in a chick flick.

To add insult to the injury, I believe that Capello is the highest paid international manager in the world. £6m!!

Capello is trying to stack the cards in his favour. My announcing the team, only two hours before the match it keeps the opposition guessing as to who they are facing. Sounds plausible, however England is full of little tricks like that to show 'quality'. However its all hype. The real problem was that they were not playing attention, playerrs attempted to pass and found the receiver was not ready, they lost the ball consistently to simple tackles.

I'm England through and through. I'm not gonna lie. But that performance last night was just awful. What happened to the team in qualifying?

People might think I stick up for the team out of blind patriotism, but we looked like world-beaters during qualifying at times. We have genuinely good players.

What the feth has happened to them? Rooney in particular looked like a fat, bald sunday league player last night, but when he's on his game he's unplayable. He literally runs rings around the opposition.

The trouble with Lampard is that he plays a very specific way for his club, and is forced to play in a different way for his country. Gerrard had a really gak season for Liverpool and, imo, should not be playing. Lampard is much better at the 'attacking-midfielder' role and should play alongside Barry.

The main problem with England is their utter reluctance to do something different; frankly, Walcott should be in the squad, he has the ability to come on from the bench and change the game; if not through sheer pace, then through forcing the opposition to deal with him. Same goes for Milner and Defoe; They both offer something different from the usual formulaic build-up play and should be used as such!

The point was that there seems to be a problem with both Gerrard and lampard in the team, which unbalances the team.

I watched the last 40 minutes live.

Our guys were playing much better than before. Passing was tighter, and they were a lot more aggressive. Their defensive play was also good and there was some good ball skills.

Rooney was very well marked by the Slovenes, who were never out of the game. England got quite a few shots and were unlucky not to score. Rooney got a great shot in and the Slovene goalie just managed to touch it with his fingertips. England looked good for thier win today, should have been in the bag by half time but for some great keeping.

The Yanks looked to have much the same sort of game to us, they were all over Algeria like a cheap suit but couldn'y quite nail it (until the 92nd minute anyway).

Typical you wait two weeks for a good game a three roll along on the same day.

Your making out the "international stage" to be more than it is. Both the premiership and the champions league are much harder stages than the world cup.

England have good players. A few great players. Which they have proven at club level, which is as I say a harder level.

I'd go as far as saying the the top half of the premiership could badly beat every team in the world cup, including Brazil, Spain whoever.
