GW is doing away with alliances in general. To my understanding, even the new Witch Hunter / Grey Knight / Inquisition / whatever-named Codex's for 40K are going to be dropping it.

Again, this shouldn't stop you from playing that way anyways: More often than not, if you ask your opponent's permission (and, if you must play in a GW store, they give you the go-ahead [they usually will if the armies are closely themed]), you have free reign over it. Heck, you can use that to play old army books too. I will eventually want to play in a tournament or two and in some of the fantasy game nights at the GW store closest to me, but generally, if I can get my 40k group to get into fantasy even on just the warband level then I will be playing amongst friends who would probably not care if I fielded Chaos Ogres and Chosen Chaos Knights or even a Shaggoth with my beasts. So...I will continue to build a legal Beasts force and bust out the Chaos boys just for fun now and then.
