I've already gone through some other ranges that aren't quite as 'heroic' in their scale as WHFB (LoTR, Wargames Factory viking lines, etc.) but does anyone know of any others?

WoC is harder. There are lots of places which make barbarian character models which could fit into a Chaos army. But they tend to have character prices which rules out their use as unit builders. I have yet to find a good replacement for the rank and file Chaos Warriors. Marauders are easier - WF and Gripping Beast make a Viking plastic kit. Could also mix in the WF Celts/Germans. If it is a GW sponsored tourney... HECK NO! They require that something like 80% of the mini be GW parts. Which makes sense from their viewpoint; they view the tourneys as showcases for their products. Someone using a different manufacturer's products undermines the whole point of their having the tourney in the first place.
