Question about 'Unbasing'

As of now, I have standard bases on my army. I glued them on back a long time when, and wondered something.

Does anyone know a good way of getting pieces off of bases? Would my best bet be just to sit them base-size high in simple-green? Thanks all

Depends what you used to base them, but normally you can just use clippers to scrape it off.

Question about 'Unbasing'

I just use a stanley knife - new blades are really sharp so should slice through a thin layer of glue/plastic fairly easily. Just be careful (as always) when using a knife.

This way you get to keep both the base and the model.

Re:Question about 'Unbasing'

If they're based using PVA or Wood Glue, just soaking the base in water for about an hour will bring the sand right off! As for Superglue, Simple Green and some clippers will be your best bet.
Granesh

Question about 'Unbasing'

if you use a knife like mentioned above you should be able to get the whole thing of as one piece.

just what i did when i rebased my army.

good thing is:if you manage to get the knife between the glue and the base and can remove all at once, your base looks like it was brand new ^^

Question about 'Unbasing'

Do you want to remove the BASES, or the basing effect you did on them?

Removing the bases is easier if you glued them on with superglue - if they're glued on with Poly Cement then you'll have to cut through the plastic bond.

I had quite a lot of success recently removing the basing effect (gravel and flock held on with PVA) with a craft knife, just scraping it along the base. If you're careful, you won't harm the paintjob on the feet of the model, and if you scratch the base, it usually doesn't matter, as you're going to put a different sort of flock/gravel on top anyway...
