Miscasts...

Anyone else having a problem with them? In my first match of 8th ed. today, we had three miscasts, between two players, in 5 games turns. We managed to kill 17 dark elf warriors with shields, two skaven, and the sorceress herself! 500 point match... Heh, might be more manageable at higher points...

The chart seems ridiculous this time around, especially given the large amount of dispel dice per turn when compared to power dice.

Any other thoughts on it? or stories...

Magic seems to have become more powerful, so it seems to balance itself out a little bit.

My only problem is that the incredibly powerful Throne of Vines allows the cast to hope for double 6s and then wave off the backlash on a +2, but that is more of a spell issue.

The miscasts are nasty to compensate for the spells.

I have a story though. A unit of 6 Trolls and a Giant charges a Saurus Warrior bunker with an Old Blood. My Sorcerer Lord in a Warriors unit throws 6 dice at The Enfeedling Foe on the unit and gets double 6s. The Saurus unit is reduces it's Strength by 3 and my Sorc Lord uses Smoke and Mirrors to swap places with a Sorcerer standing on his own. The Sorc Lord rolls 7 on the miscast chart(Every model in btb takes an S10 hit and lose d6 dice). No one gets hit since the Sorc Lord is on his own and I lose 3 PD. Sorc Lord uses his reamining dice to cast Melkoth's Mystifying Miasma on a different unit. LM player lets it go and my Sorc Lord goes back to his buddies in the Warrior unit. The LM was kind of pissed.

Re:Miscasts...

The only miscast that is completely horrible is the 2-4, that is the only one that can kill your caster, and its only a 50% chance.

Back in 7th edition a 2 was the one that gibbed your wizard, every time. So you lose some power dice or a wizard level, all in all its about the same in terms of damage.

On another note, people are saying that for the transformation of kadon spell you get to transform, then do the miscast, possibly not dieing cause your wounds get higher. So if that spell is played that way, then on the turn you IF throne of vine you should be able to ignore it on a 2+.
