Totally scratch built Tempest Eagle (Storm Raven)

Hi, I am a huge fan of scratch building mostly because I rairly have money to buy some stuff. Unfortunately this means I also have difficulty getting plasticard and other more commonly used materials. This means I have to use what's lying round my house: cardboard. This obviously means my projects are by no means as impressive as those using mostly parts of other kits and plasticard as I have seen out of all other storm raven attempts. (ALL using the valk kit)
This however is a fair bit larger than those of other attempts, this is because I wanted to make it look like it could carry its specified cargo, unlike most GW APCs (even "True Scale" marines). Well here it is, it was made from an old toy ferry (main body), paint pots, glue, cello-tape and a whole lot of card board. (meaning it may be a bit weak and "droopy", the downside of cardboard) I may go over it and give it some more detail and properly do the interior. (if possible) No GW parts were used in its making. Comments would be appreciated.

Considering the materials i think you done a good job. If your building out of card you would be better off using grey mounting board (dirt cheap) then you wouldn't see the corrigated effect.

Needs more paint though.

Re:Totally scratch built Tempest Eagle (Storm Raven)

Conceptually it is solid, but now that you have mastered cardboard you may wish to graduate to plasticard; with the proper tools (some really good scissors, but also sharp X-acto blades, a metal ruler, and an appropriate cutting surface) you can achieve a much better effect with about the same level of work. Give it a try and I think you will be amazed by how easy it is.

Re:Totally scratch built Tempest Eagle (Storm Raven)

Good luck with that no one in my area stocks much of it, your best bet is to look for a local hobby store (RC cars / Trains that sort of thing).

I keep meaning to place an order with these guys, they seem to have a fair amount in stock but I have no idea what the service is like.

http://www.modelsforsale.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=8_89999134

You can search that site by part number so go to the evergreen site first http://www.evergreenscalemodels.com and look up what you want. Evergreen put all the dimensions, including internal dimensions, of their items on the site, so you can make sure rods will fit into tubes etc etc.

Anyone stocking either evergreen or plastruct will do. There are loads of vendors but try EMA models (http://www.ema-models.co.uk/) or Netmerch@nts (http://www.netmerchants.co.uk/section.php/1014/1/modelling_materials/3c09be476f03525d9e9c121e6de5162e) as a start.

You are best searching for Styrene sheet...not plasticard.

Hope that helps.
