Storage?

I need to rent a storage unit for all my plastic and other belongings. I was wondering if any of you have done so and whether you used climate controlled, interior, or exterior.

With exterior, I am concerned about New England weather warping sprues between the cold and heat. I was wondering if the interior storage did not change enough for me to worry, or if I should just get full blown CC and pay the extra $$.

Thanks in advance

Re:Storage?

Yep, definitely get some climate control. I made the mistake of storing 10 boxes of metal and plastic in my basement for a couple of years - not a pretty site as the damp had caused massive amounts of damage to the paintwork - dulling was minor but in some places a complete stripping was needed - I still have not rectified all the damage and it has been a number of years now since it happened. So for the few extra bucks definitely go for the CC.

Storage?

It is mostly unopened boxes, sprues and metal tossed in plastic bins. Another forum I posted to mentioned damage to decals and the boxes deteriating as well. So CC it is!

Fortunately, the place I found has a mezzanine level that is $50 cheaper than ground floor.

Thanks!

Storage?

I would say you are best selling off all the old sprues and bitz as you are wasting money storing them. Work out how much it would cost you to store them for a year and then work out how much you could replace them for in a years time (if you ever do want to replace them that is) I bet some of the stuff you have is OOP and hard to replace but you can get most of what you want on ebay or places like my site wargamersworld and the bitzbox etc.
I would only store models that mean something to you, models you have painted and never want to lose.
So make some money from your old stuff and use the money from the sale and the money saved from storage and buy full models or kits that you have always wanted (that's if there is anything n the market that you don't already own
Then again buddy it's your money and you know best

Storage?

Gotta agree with wargamersworld. Unopened boxes of stuff and whole sprues should go for sale if they are not impossibly rare (i.e. orks from AoBR complete sprues, sell, RTB01 marines complete sprue, keep). Remember, there is always another unopened box of generic marines in the LGS should you need one THAT badly, keeping some 'on hand' probably is a waste of cm^3.

As for semi-complete sprues, clip them all off the sprues into SORTED containers (even if its 3 bins for 'fantasy' '40K' and'other') and then it should all fit nicely in some sort of shed or spare room/attic etc!

Storage?

It's not just GW stuff. A lot of it is OOP models, Anime model kits, resin kits, comic books, legos, LARP costumes and weapons, etc...

There is also a time factor. I have two weeks to move the stuff. By the time I get pictures and write ups for all this stuff, it will be too late

Storage?

Dude, any kind of resin stands a real good chance of warping in high heat, esp. if you have things stacked on top of it. If you only have 2 weeks trying to sell it in anything short of job lots is a pipe dream unless you have wads of prospective buyers already lined up. Throw that gak into climate controlled storage, and then start disposing fo stuff in an effort to reduce your cubes immediately, so you can try and get the overall keep-able leftovers into a more permanent storage (new apartment, house, smaller storage unit, whatever). In a month or two you should have been able to start gettign rid of stuff ala Legien Zero and wargamersworlds suggestions. You will get drug over the coals on price, but that's part of life. Good luck.

Storage?

I highly recommend CC. Of course I live in Alabama, and the heat does more damage than the cold can ever do. (i use to live in Iowa so I understand the cold.) I have seen leather couches peal off on boxes next to it, and I have seen figs warp to the point they are not usable.
