best way to make hydrolics, tubing/wiring?

I tried doing a search to see if this had come up before and I came up empty handed.

What is the best way to make hydrolics? right now I am thinking just get two sized styrene rods and cut to size but what is the best way to make sure they look "right" not like two rods glued together, or is it just as simple as that?

Also what do you all use to replicate the corrugated tubing that is often used on flamers and other details on models? I am going to have to make it all from scratch as I haven't been collecting long enough to have spare bits to cannibalize yet. One thought I had was to slip a paperclip/wire inside a spring from a "clickable pen"... but I just don't have very many of those laying around.

Regarding hydraulics, go look at some diggers and see how the bits fit together. Basically you have 1 tube inside another. Fluid is pumped into the end of the larger tube and this forces the smaller tube out. So to be totally accurate you need at least 1 feed pipe connecting into the end of the larger tube. To make it lok right it has too look like the smaller tube is mobile.

I tend to use plain wire for such things, but I believe the ribbed look is available through use of guitar wire.

Right, ribbed wire-guitar wire. You can sort of recrete it yourself by winding wire around itself, but I've gotten mixed results with that method.

As for hydraulics, plasticard rods would work just fine. I've done hydraulics myself with two dissimilarly-sized pieces of aluminum tubing.
