Turquoise Tau (will be pic heavy!)

So I figure that if I post and force myself to update a painting blog, I might actually finish painting my Tau.

So I'll start with:

First pic is what I've started and my "painting table". One of the best things about living solo in a big apartment? I can arrange my hobby table behind my couch and not worry about the girlfriend not agreeing with the layout, haha. Once she moves in, I'll add to my hobby room, but for now...

And the second picture is most of what else I'll have to paint and model. I have more stuff on the way, and Gen Con will only add to this all this weekend...

Look! Fire Warriors in Simple Green - the greatest most excellent paint stripping stuff ever created!

This is a few completed models I've done for fun. Nothing special, just gave me a reason to paint. I keep them above my models so I can remind myself, "Hey, you should paint because you don't entirely suck at it." I think it works for keeping me going?

These are my first three almost 100% finished table quality FW's. You can see that I need to finish the base (covering that sloppy white paint). But as for some various streaks or "not in the lines", I'm content. From the arms length rule that I go with for table quality, I'm content with the quality. I'm aiming to get these guys out in ~20-25 minutes a piece, and that's where I sit right now.

Here's the FW's after I've given them a small P3 Coal Black highlight. Damn you lighting...

These are about to get Coal Black highlight. After which, I'm going to do the little white symbol on all the unbased ones shown. From there, I'll go ahead and do some quick basing. Basing is just some weird white glitter I found at Micheal's. It works perfect for what I want!

And here's the only paints I use for these guys. I'll probably use the same for most vehicles as well. I'll probably do a red/orange for the boosters in the vehicles. Kroot will either be fleshy with black/dark brown spackle, but I haven't decided yet. Vespids will be black, purple, and turquoise for now. I might change that after I see how the colors go together, but I've wanted to use my Warlock Purple or whatever it is I have laying around.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

So there's my current state of progress. I'm going to aim to have all my FW's done before Gen Con. I might try and start on a vehicle if I get really excited, but I don't know how that's going to go...Kroot might be before a vehicle, but again - speculation! Feedback, tips, and anything at all really, would be awesome and appreciated. Thanks!!!

Lookin good man, that is definitely a nice color scheme, very effective. The white basing really brings it together too. Can't wait to play against them!

I'm gonna get stomped, lol.

Re:Turquoise Tau (will be pic heavy!)

Alright, so I finished MORE FIRE WARRIORS!

This is after I finished the random Coal Black splotching I do to imitate highlights. For real, when I did other black highlights, I discovered how easy it is to fake "good" black highlights on table quality minis.

O hai moar Fiar Worers!!1!

About to get the sparkle glitter base of fun! You can see the difference light makes on these guys...They look dull here. Lame sauce.

But here, they are all ready to be glitterfied!!!

BEDAZZLED!

Better-ish shot?

------------------------------------------------

So there we have day 2. One thing to note, again, is that these suckers are table quality. I've made a conscious effort to not go back and fix little brush spasms. I figure if I do that, I'll never be content with what I'm painting. This allows me to get things painted and appreciate what I can spit out relatively quickly.

I have a bunch more FW's to do, but I've decided (after a small chit-chat with a friend) to try my hand at a Devilfish. Hope this goes well...never painted anything big before (sans Fex).

Re:Turquoise Tau (will be pic heavy!)

So I've been buuuusy! I must say, vehicles are not that fun...Not that fun at all.

---------------------------------

So I had to more FW's because I had them. The one in the back took ~15 minutes? The batch of 7 in front took about 35 or so? Batch painting little pieces at a time rocks and SO speeds up my process.

First run over the Devilfish. I used a 3/4" brush or something for this. Color is, well, a bit off?

Coverage! Wooo!

And this here is the first basecoat of the Devilfish. I need to go back and touch up some spots that need, well, touching up. After this, I'll go through and ink the blue to give it the same color as the FW's. The beige will be inked black, followed by a white coating, followed by ANOTHER black wash. This will finish up the main coloring of the transport. After I do this, or before...I'll go through and do some of the other details - red dots, the boosters, etc etc.

----------------------------------------

As I said, I don't known if I enjoy vehicles. You really see results and all, but they take a loooong time if you don't have spray paint or an airbrush (or at least they take MEEE a long time). Not too terribly excited about the other vehicles.

Next will probably be a few speed painted minis to prepare for Saturday at Gen Con and the Speed Painting competition, hahaha. Yay fun!
