What scares you more, Powerful Magic or Warmachines en mass?

Dear Dakka Dakka Readers,

What is a more reliable tactic in your opinion/gaming experience with 8th edition, using magic or (specifically talking about powerful mages, i.e. Teclis, Slann, etc) or War machines (Specifically talking about Empire, Dwarfs)?

What scares you more, facing powerful mages or war machines en mass?

All mages are limited in dice and you dispel counters and potential miscast. Not only that, there's only a few of em. For the same point cost you could field a zillion war machines (even a basic slann is going to be >300 pts and often closer to 500). Which is why they put the hard cap on the same rare/specials <3k points.

Personally, I think war machines are scarier than powerful mages. However, I've noticed a trend on forums about people saying that Teclis is OP. Which he certainly is very powerful and probably a pain to play against. However, I think that facing a boat load of war machines is probably a lot worse of an ordeal than facing Teclis and I haven't seen as many people complaining about a ton of war machines. But maybe that's because I haven't seen the right threads.

Anyway, I just wanted to do an informal poll here on Dakka Dakka to get some data on the subject.

Teclis is not so much OP as he is undercosted. He is almost a no brainer for the points. Mass machines outside of that scare far more than magic does since I can't dispel a cannon.

Since I haven't seen any super-scary magic yet, War Machines. However, I realize that theory-hammer a multi-lore multi-lord Mage Army can potentially get terrifying by sniping your characters, debuffing your units, and / or giving major buffs to their units.

Overall, currently, I fear War Machines. I play Orcs & Goblins, so I need to reach the enemy intact with my play-style (I go for a few Heroes + Big Blocks that eventually whittle the enemy down to naught), so each has potential. Considering however that a L4 Mage has a very good chance of blowing himself and his unit up if he goes for too big a prize, and the worst a Cannon is going to do is silence itself, I tend to fear War Machines more as they get similar / more potential gain at less net-loss.

I used slugtongue in a game at the end of July. Really mean especially with a big bunker of hw/shield gors and some supporting units.

LPs en masse would be scary...but you can get how many cannons, mortars, rocket batteries, AND helblasters in one list now??? That takes the cake...
