I dont know if it was just me, but when I used the Wal-Mart stuff it would dry powdery sometimes, no matter how carefully I tried to apply it (yes carefully and spray paint is kind of an oxymoron).

I wouldn't bother with brush on. It's undoubtedly cheaper than aerosol but the coat is likely to be uneven or thick, with painting on top detail might be lost.
