Noob question - how best to apply grass to base?

As the title says. I'm trying to spruce up my bases with field grass from Woodland scenics, example Here.

I've tried bending some strands in half, then using regular white glue to glue the joint to the base. But when the glue dried it was clearly visible as an opaque gluey lump.

Then I tried thinning the glue first with water but then the grass soaked it up and all the strands stuck together.

Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks!

If you are going for a short grass go with the static grass from gale force 9 or citadel. If you want a longer look dont bend the grass, cut strands to the length you want then hold it in a bunch. As to gluing it a little glue goes a long way. Dont glob it on lay a thin coat then push the bunch into it standing straight. If you need an example check out my eldar wraithlord in my gallery. I did exactly as i just desribed

edit heres the wraithlord http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/68343-.html?m=2

couple of suggestions apart from ^

for just a few blades, use a little putty on the base so there's something to push the ends into. Just a thin layer will double the surface area of the grass to give a better bond with the glue.

For denser clumps, use an elastic band or some-such to hold the strands together into a clump the size, flatten one end (like they did with hale bales all those years ago) and stick the whole bundle down. When it's dry trim it to the length you want.

Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Elmers Glue + Water (mix the two together) apply with an old brush or toothpick, take tweezers and apply grass to glue areas. Knock off or blow of any excess and adjust the grass with a drybrush to make it stand up/lay down, whatever desired position you are looking for
