Help with clumping static grass!

I am just recently getting around to painting my Realm of Battle game board, and I am using (for the most part) the kit that was made for it. However my big bag of static grass that came with it is all clumped into tiny balls.

Is there a better way to un-clump, de-clump, or what ever than pulling each little piece apart with my fingers and plyers? I mean there is a ton of static grass here and it will take me forever. Plus some of the smaller clumps are rock hard.

And on a side note, once it is flocked, what is the best way to seal it? I have tried watered down glue in a spray bottle but it always just comes out in blotches. I do not want to use Purity seal as it's way to expensive to cover the whole board.

Thanks for the help guys.

Have you tried using a seive to get out all the loose stuff, leaving the clumps behind?

I would also contact whoever you got the kit from and see what they say, as it should really all be loose in the packet.

urk sounds like something manky has invaded your grass .

Not much help, but I can't recommend Mininatur/silflor grass clumps enough - they are amazing. I tend to use woodland scenics turf for expanses of grass as it looks more to scale then add these clumps in.

On the sealant side try woodland scenics scenic cement. It does the job

Oh... all these things and more are available here http://www.antenocitisworkshop.com/gbu0-catshow/silflorstaticgrass.html

Hope that is some use.

If that's the case, the clumped grass is probably screwed.

Once flocked, I have just used spray varnish (not Purity Seal, as it is too expensive) to seal stuff. I usually use Testor's Gloss varnish spray to protect, then their Dullcote to knock off the shine. Used sparingly, this has worked, even on static grass. If you use too much, I'm sure it would glob up the grass, so don't.

Help with clumping static grass!

Put the clumps in your palms, and put your hand together like you are praying. push your hands together and move them back and forth in opposite directions (one goes forward, other goes back). The idea is to "grind" the static grass clumps to fall apart. The only possible explanation of the hard clumps is that you might have gotten some glue in your container.

Help with clumping static grass!

Thanks for the tips guys.

The static grass came out of the bag that way. The bag it is packaged in in the Realm of Battle paint kit.

I took a big bowl and used a sieve to get enough to start flocking but this started to clump as I used it. I have never seen this before. I am having to use a shaker to flock the table and it's taking forever.
