Id say for the hill, depending on how your board is painted, paint it like a normal models base. So dark basecoat, drybrush lighter and again with an even lighter shade, then static grass or snow as you like!

The building, I would be tempted to get a grey primer can from halfords and spray it with that. then line the recesses with devlan mud, wait to dry and then give the whole thing a 1:1 water to devlan mud wash.
Then get a large brush with a bit of fortress grey on it, wipe most of it off on a piece of tissue and drybrush the whole thing in downward strokes.

Tom

Cool, thanks for the tips. This is the first terraini have bought (havn't actually built the table yet).

I was goign to base the buildign with Charadon Garnite.....do you think that would be too dark with a drybrush of codex/fortress gray?

For the hill i was thinkign of a black base, codex gray and then drydrusk fortress gray for bare stone, and top it off with grass flock.

It depends on what you want building to look like it was made out of.

A light great will give a stone appearance. A dark grey will give a slightly more ceramic inflection.

Re:Painting GW buildings and terrain?

Simple approach:
Grass Hill : Knarloc Green, then Devlan Mud, then drybrush Goblin Green.
Mechanicum: some base colour like Knarloc Green, then Badab Black to make it dirty and Gryphonne Sepia to make it rusty, then drybrush boltgun metal on the edges/rivets.
