Starting a Dwarf Army, Help?

I am considering getting into Fantasy, however the only army that seems to catch my interest is the dwarves.

I would like it to be centered around the cool artillery that they get. Possibly with a couple Hand to Hand units to help with whatever weaknesses i might have.

Can i get a little help?

Check out http://www.bugmansbrewery.com/, it's a great site focused on dwarfs, very friendly to new players.

Grudge throwers are great now with a rune of accuracy and a rune of penetration. Cannons are great, they need the rune of forging. Organ guns are lots of fun. I use one of each in my 2250 list. Add BSB and a runesmith with a rune of balance and a few big blocks of troops with great weapons and you have a solid 8th edition list. Just remember that in 8th edition, you won't get many turns of shooting in before you're in hand to hand.

Re:Starting a Dwarf Army, Help?

Take the max on cannons and grudge throwers (think this is 3 of each in an army under 3k pts) as you know this is the main strength of your army. Take a couple organ guns too as flank protection, they can be devastating. Now Dwarfs have some very rock solid infantry units as well for a decent points price. Their standard warriors are very low in points for how tough they are so take a couple bricks of them. Possibly one with hand weapon and shields and one with great weapons as this gives you one unit with staying power and one with a good amount of killyness. You can also make the great weapon unit longbeards if you want for a little bit more elite unit. Then there is your actual elite units such as the iron breakers and Hammerers. I dont think you can really go wrong with either as they are just elite versions of what i've already mentioned but i'd say just take one or the other and just one unit of them. the best thing to accompany your gunline though would be handgunners. These guys pack a nasty punch from a 24" range and aren't that bad in CC as well. I'd take at least 2 units of them. The dwarf army is just tough overall as they all have a toughness 4 to start. Your going to be able to dish out as much damage as any army out there and be able to take it better then most. They only thing you are sacrificing is your not a very mobile army, if at all. And you don't get magic either. But thats because you dont need it. Anyways hope I helped a little. Peace.
