Forced disembark is still a disembark.

Hey all. I've noticed a lot of arguing about what counts as disembarking in regards to what a unit can do after a vehicles been destroyed and such. Under the Embarking and Disembarking section which is a default rule, "Models can only voluntarily embark or disembark in the movement phase...However, they may embark and then be forced to disembark if their transport is destroyed." So having a vehicle be destroyed in any way is considered disembarking. Some will argue that this rule is referring to embarking and disembarking in one turn as it is and therefor not valid. But the very reason the statement exists is because forced disembarking is still disembarking. Also, on the next page, it states directly under destroyed vehicles - explodes! "Note:...If a transport is destroyed (EITHER result) by a ranged attack, the unit that shot it may assault the now DISEMBARKED passengers." Everything in the book leans towards this being a disembarking.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
So it's been established in multiple places in the book what qualifies as disembarking. So in an example, if a transport that didn't move at all or pivot gets destroyed by an explodes result, they are, RAW, disembarked from a transport that didn't move. Forced or otherwise. So since the disembarking rule make no special exceptions for forced disembarking vs. voluntarily disembarking (Other then the gut checks and character placement), the disembarked unit may still move, shoot and assault as normal.

Now if the said transport moved, or pivoted before exploding or becoming wrecked, the disembarked unit may not assault. It follows all basic disembarking rules. The only thing that changes is whether they were forced to disembark or not. And there are no rules in the book that deny a unit forced to disembark the same rules as a voluntarily disembarked unit.

Forced disembark is still a disembark.

This was all covered in the previous thread. I don't think we need to start that argument up again just yet.

People are going to disagree on this one, due to the precise wording in the codex. Until GW get around to FAQing it, discuss it with your opponent.
