how to use Washes.

I find washes tricky. I do a lot of blending and a wash gone wrong can destroy everything so I tend to not bother.

@ Tazay - In case you dont know, a wash is a very thin cover of paint over a whole area. The paint will be thinker in shadow area's as the paint settles like water. Again, it covers everything, so if you blend it will tone down that blending. It can make your colours blend really well and gives it a very smooth finish.

I suggest using a test mini with a large flat surface (a cape is best). Do sections with washes (not whole thing) and see how it turns out. Make some washes thicker then others (I need to do this myself haha).

Inks are similar except are more likely to be much thinner so they tend to go only in the shadow are's. Top area's tend to remain untouched depending how thick the ink is.

edit: added more text.

There are two uses of washes.

Basic shading:
After the basecoat you wash the model to obtain the shadow layer then putting on the high lights.

Glazing:
Use the wash as the last step of painting, to get a smooth transitions between the high lighting layers.
