Manticore- ROF 3 works well on the feat turn, and he hits harder in melee than any other Ret jack by a wide margin

Hydra- He's got better range and POW with the gun when fully loaded with focus, but in general is pretty pathetic in melee. The kinetic capacitor, much like the Phoenix field, seems really useful on paper until you play a few games and realize the jacks generally go from good to trash in a turn and nickel and dime damage is rare especially when your opponent sees he's just powering the jack for you. Also, because of the focus camping gimmick, the Hydra tends to be excessively vulnerable to disruption.

Discordia- Of course all of those jacks are pale shadows compared to Discordia in a Ravyn list. SP10 POW 14 is pretty ridiculous on her feat turn and it gives the army a response to stealth. In addition Ravyn tends to run the MHSF and various stealthed solos, all of which are things that love Discordia's imprint that protects models within 3" from blast damage. Ravyn doesn't have a terrible need for a Pheonix, and when the trade-off is Eiryss, I'd say you'll fair better with the manticore. It's pretty good on Ravyn's feat turn with ROF 3. In general I prefer the Angel of the Retribution to the Mage Hunter Eiryss, shutting down upkeeps on command and keeping jacks from getting focus just by being near them is really nice and she can still take off focus for assassinations.

In general it looks functional, the only small issue I see is the Battle Mages. Without Rahn's feat, Magic Ability 6 has some issues hitting targets, especially higher DEF targets you really want to hit like casters. In general I'd run a unit that benefits from Ravyn's feat over the Battle Mages. I think Stormfall Archers are the same point cost, and I've had a lot of success with them in Ravyn lists.

Keep in mind that Discordia isn't a legal model until it's released to the public. Assuming the same release date as the rest of the conversion kits, you've got about three months before you can use it, even if you do manage to get your hands on one of the GenCon copies.


For casual play nobody cares, and almost all of the local TO's we have are allowing them.
