I have used this tutorial to do my terminator sergeant, Apone, and I was really happy with it. I spray everything with a Krylon Khaki base coat anyway for the camoflage, then I paint the skin with a chocalate looking brown (sorry I can't remember exactly what I used) my brown paint was a little bit thin and it had a wash effect settling into low areas and letting the khaki highlights show through. I dry brush a few highlights again with Tamiya Desert Yellow and it looks pretty good.
Try using browns and different tan drybrushes until you find something you like...
