Homemade Ork Stompa

I have been issued the challenge by my 'old' school wargaming group (which I started 10 years ago and is still going strong!) to create an Ork Stompa from everyday items cheaply in lue of this economic climate - foolishly I accepted this challange.

I have thought about this all day and have come up with the idea of using an upturned plant pot for the actual body and a smaller plant pot for the head (basicly they are the same shape as an actual Ork Stompa) and possible small plant pot saucers for the feet, and a lot of plasticard but I am stumped on what to do for the large arms of the stompa.

Any ideas and suggestion on what else would be cheap and easy to build with would be very helpful and I think this will be a very interesting project.

Find some old electronics and use their guts for bitz on the stompa. Using some bike chain, you could make a chainsaw type weapon. Cheap pens can be used, the tops for missiles, and the bodies for gun barrels. Remember to throw away the ink, or IT WILL GET EVERYWHERE!!! Any legos that you might have would make good arms, especially the technic pieces. Once you add do-dads and gizmos, no one will know they're legos.

Just have fun, take it one small step at a time, and post pictures frequently. This will allow dakka to help you while in the project.

Have Fun

B.D.

Well I reccomend starting with a small plastic bin, they are roughly the right size and shape. Then grab some plasticard (it's cheap to order it from the web) and the insides of eletrical items and stick them together. Make sure you use the plasticard to male lots of overlapping plates, as that makes it look so much better.

I would find a thermos or coffee cup as a base point. Build off that. It isn't wide enough, but it would provide support while the outer shell is all for looks. That might be 6-10 inches tall, plus legs, plus head would make for a right sized stompa.

Someting this sized:

I think the plastic bin or even styrofoam (very dense foam) would be easier than a pot. Chain weapons can be done with plasticard (two smaller sheets sandwiching two spiked sheets taht overlap) and guns are good from things like bottle tops (without the screw lid) and little pipes.

Good luck these always look good.

Tip - Check whatever plastic stuff you find for adhesion before you plan the rest of the model around it. If it ain't styrene then yer poly cement wont work, which basically leaves superglue or epoxy. Superglue will break off most smooth plastics with the slightest knock and though epoxy is better it still cannot bond plastics properly, so make sure you score/scratch up any joins prior to gluing.

I look forward to the outcome!

Edit - 1-2mm plasticard is more than enough for this. Structural strength will come through the err, structure itself.
