How to salvage an older Space Marine Landspeeder? Ideas needed.

I got one of the older speeders that was from back in the day that the kits didn't really fit together all that well, and in an attempt to give it a nice new home in my newest space marine army I am trying to salvage it. The kit was partially assembled, but at some point the support beam across the cockpit got completely mangled and the top half did not come down in any sort of alignment with the bottom half. I remedied the alignment issue by taking the modelling saw to it and basically chopping the body into 2 pieces. However this left a damaged and no longer even close to usable support beam in place. I have since cut it off entirely, but the cockpit looks too wide open now. I thought about enclosing it completely, but that would require so much work that I wouldn't be able to do it justice with my very basic model building skills.

I'll try to get a crappy picture up later to help you guys see what I am dealing with, but I only have a cellphone camera right now and the pictures aren't the greatest.

If I understand right, you're saying that the only thing missing is the beam I've circled in red?

I would use the waste bits from a sprue, maybe double them up for bulk and cut them at the appropriate angle with that modelling saw, and make a couple of "I-beams" to fill in the space. If that is the only part missing, there isn't really anything in the way of details you'd be losing.

Hahahahahaha

Old land speeders are pewter!
Seriously, that bit of plastic shouldn't be hard to replace, I expected an answer about pinning and green stuff!

PM me your address, I think I have the whole cockpit section left over from a Landspeeder Storm I parted out. I should be able to send it to you.
edit - oh, you're in Canadia. It wouldn't make it to you for like a month. You can probably fix it with some sprue much sooner but I'll send the part if you want me to

Re:How to salvage an older Space Marine Landspeeder? Ideas needed.

Thanks for the ideas. I was thinking that the sprue crossbeam might be what I end up going with, but I wasn't sure of how it will turn out.

As promised here's the picture from my cellphone camera.

This poor speeder has got a fair amount of work needed since the top portion was so warped to begin with that there was no way to make the front come even close to the connecting properly. I still have to do a fair bit of work on the rest to get it up to standards, since other small pieces are broken or missing.

This is what I did with a friends, believe me, this was mangled and I think I did quite a good job:
http://www.dakkadakka.com/gallery/84338-Arbites%20Land%20Speeder%202.html?m=2
(Excuse the dust)

Replacement of parts with Plasticard, desired models and sprue basically rebuilt it. Then my crap painting ruined it but meh!

The OC-D
