Metallic Red... No redder than that...

Hey guys,

Some of you may remember I asked for some help with my Astoraths broken axe and you guys certainly help me out with fixing it (Particularly Elmodiddly )

Well Now Ive hit a second hurdle, Ive painted up Astorath and Im relativly happy with him. He good for my standard, nothing earth shattering.

I painted him a metallic Red using Boltgun metal, highlight Mithrill silver, Baal red wash, Each thinned and using 2 or 3 coats of each.

And as a stand alone model I really like it, but the red for the rest of my models is Scarlet, and this red just isn't.
No pic at the moment, im at work, but I will upload a pic if i get a chance later tonight.

So does any one know a good way for an ametuer liek me to metallic scarlet?

Boltgun Metal and some Red Ink should work better than Baal Red as it leaves it too pinkish. Valejo makes some if I remember correctly. While I haven't done it myself I have seen it used for gore and over metal it looks like metallic red.

Vallejo do a metallic medium too. It will still come out somwhat pinkish though, but not as much.

Well worth investing in if you wanna save some time by mixing up your own metallic red. Thoroughly recommended.

Ogryn Flesh + small amount of Baal Red works okay as a warmer red wash. I'd probably mix up my own red wash with Blood Red and Future Floor Polish, though.

Gamecraft of Liverpool do a metallic red. Drybrush it onto a model then wash with Baal red. You need to wash a few times to build up the red finish but it is worth it.
