wait, that's black tea on the outside? As in, you broke open some tea bags and PVA'd it on?

What a tragety that such a well-painted model is going to suffer from mildew. :(

That looks good mate, A bit OTT for my taste, but not awful. Though the slightest whiff of humidity and it will fall off... I would imagine..

I like the texture you've got there, but it needs a bit of 'blending in' i.e. you've got a nice crisp baneblade covered in textured mud, but I think it needs a suitably applied drybrush of brown just to blend the texture into the tank better (looks a bit 'stuck on' atm).

Other than that, amazing job!

looks kool but i would say ott but depends what effect you want fresh mud or dry, with mine i wanted dry so stippling a mud colour first helps but i used pastel shavings dabbed into the paint then highlight it to get a dusty dry effect, tyou can see what i mean my pictures are in the gallery.

Re:baneblade

I have to agree the paint job is great but the mud while looking like good caked on mud is a little over the top and lacks any blending in. There isn't any transition from paint job to mud and as some have said the tea may suffer over time I've seen some great mud made from GW basing snow and hard coat mixed with your choice of mud coloured paint. It takes a while to get the consistency exactly right but its easy to apply has great texture and dry's rock hard.

I'll agree with the others, the mud needs something under it to blend it in some. Another point, the tracks at the front should be much cleaner. The mud builds up at the back but is cleaned/shaken off as it moves towards the front. Sure there will still be some mud, but the thick, caked on stuff isn't possible at the front of a tracked vehicle.

Unless it has spent a long time in reverse, and this is a baneblade. Do they even have a reverse?

The effect on the tread is nice.... Think there is too much over the top of the tank, it wouldn't have got up there in those amounts... normally this dries dark... has this dried and gone darker now? Once dried I'd suggest scrapping the bits from the top off and leave it to the treads and bottom side panels of tank..

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Oh and think this would benefit from some weathering... the painting is great... but looks too clean to then have the mud on it... if you make the tank look a bit more weathered at the sides might add to the effect... Glad you tried my technique.... And like I said.. I think it looks good but need to loose the bits of mud on the top parts of tank

I would suggest looking at some reference photos of muddy tanks (there are plenty to be found). Personally, I agree with the "over the top" crowd, but that's personal preference. My issue is that the mud, regardless of the amount, doesn't lie in a believable pattern.

Figure out where the mud would reasonably build up and restrict your globs to those areas. After that, a bit of drybrushing or some pigments will help make the mud pop, as well as helping to soften the transition by dirtying up the surrounding areas on the tank. Try it, when you get the chance, and I think you'll get better results.
