What you will need:
1) Thumb Tack, Razor Blade, or Large Sewing Needle
2) Painted Plastic Mini (preferably one that was primered in black, or other dark colors.)
3) Strong Threshold of Pain (just in case!)

Unlike my last tutorial, we will not purposefully inflict pain on ourselves this time. There may, however, be a time when you wish your finger had not failed it's invulnerable save.

Let us start with my tool of choice: the "Thumb Tack". Common, every day, hanging on office walls or bedrooms; thumb tacks.

Take a few troops with you to work and give them bullet holes or knife wounds with a well placed gouge, or nice long scrape. Apply enough pressure to break through the top layer of paint, leaving the blackened remains of primer. Dig in deeper and leave gray scars of raw plastic such as these Termagants show:


Think of the tack as both a paint brush and an eraser. Remove pesky mistakes with a bullet hole, or dig out the over brushed coloring on the spaces between rib joints. Or even just draw cracks in the carapace. (click on the above picture to go to gallery and zoom in on the blue Gant for better look at bullet holes and cracks)

The thumb tack is my personal favorite because I can use them at work. As long as the bosses dont catch me, I can spend hours carving little details into things.

Hobby Knife or Razor Blade
Slice Freddy Krueger claw marks into space marines!



Each have teeth marks around their feet from pesky creepy crawlers! (click image to zoom)

Large Sewing Needle
We will leave off with my second favorite. The same kind of feel as a thumb tack. But you can get under the paint easier with it, and leave the primer still in good shape. You can also use this or a thumb tack to carve runes or letters out of the paint.

The hand is still a good extra bit to keep around and save for a rainy day.

Hey PAL! Wrong tutorial!

This one is for Sharp Objects. Not flame producing objects!

But I will say it again though.
If you want to use a candle, great, lighters can be positioned in different angles to get to those hard to reach areas, where as a candle only points upwards.

For the topic of this discussion, if you want to talk about heating a metal tool, to make a plasma blast bullet hole effect, then I would agree that it would be good to keep a candle lit and handy near by so you can heat the metal tool as needed. You would want to avoid getting the metal too hot, or it might burn a hole clean through to the other side.

That funny look is my "serious face", I seriously dont want to poke a hole in my finger! Especially now that we are talking about heating the tool first. Or machetes!

I'm not sure I know what that is, but I WANT ONE!!

Might be a bit of overkill for carving small bullet holes or knife wounds on plastic minis. BUT I WANT ONE!! If you do try and use it on your minis, I'm betting that the AP value is better than your finger's armor if you miss. There will be no cover saves for your knuckles, and no invulnerable saves can be taken for your hand if it gets chopped off.

The story on them is: The larger Tyranids drag a whole corpse back to the digestion pool and just toss them in, armor and all, to see what comes out... Or is there more to the story than just that??? dunnn dunnnnnnnn dunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

As for what they "Count-as" they take the place of Termagants usually. The blue one, pictured above, I sometimes use as a warrior since he is holding a deathspitter that you cant see in the pic. Or I use the old Genestealer Cult codex from way back in the day, and they are Brood-Brothers / Hybrid Warriors...

I had fun with sharp wire cutters to make them. Chop off the marine head and arms, add Nid parts, put into blender, dice, WAAAGGH-LAAA!

Thanks for the idea, I will post pics of things I have chopped up on this tutorial as well. Since wire cutters are also "sharp objects" to have fun with.
