Most PC shops will do a virus/ etc cleaning for (around here) $50 CAN. You might be in the wrong thread, mate.

The exploitative software has to be specifically written for the operating environment. Since barely anyone uses Macs (traditionally), viruses were rarely written for them. 'Old' mac viruses don't work on new Mac OS releases - neither does old Mac software for that matter.

I run minimal security on most of my computers (I only use PCs running windows and linux normally). I will +50 for Avast. I used to use AVG as well, and Avast is just WAY better. I even figured out how to do boot scans on my own. Go figure lol. There's more to it than anti-virus though, if I were you I'd look into Spybot Search and Destroy as well, it's free, easy to use, and picks up a lot of gunk you're not going to want.

Another free program to add to your toolbox? Look into CCleaner. Not really for anti-virus or malware, it does keep the rest of your computer cleaned out in a relatively hasslefree way, just run it every once in a while.

Don't forget to defrag! For that, I recommend Auslogic's Disk Defrag utility.

Malwarebytes antimalware
SUPERAntispyware
Priform CCcleaner

And seriously. Advanced systemcare is really good program! I've been trying Microsoft Security Essentials the past 48hrs, as I liked Windows Defender, and it's been absorbed by the MSE. However It seems to have slowed down the PC.

After checking some troubleshooting that suggested to remove all other anti-virus stuff, I removed my AVG and thats helped a little, plus took off Windows Defender as it was no longer required.

But I'm loathe to remove Malwarebytes, or my Spybot, and my XP is still bouncing around 20-30% CPU usage all the time, normally its minimal.
I'm also still not 100% convinced on having a Microsoft based Anti virus as my only protection.

Very interesting take. I would say stop going to sites that will murder your computer. TPB has gotten viruses, and will dowload malware. Are you looking for anti-virus or anti-ad ware>

If I were you I'd stay the hell away from Microsoft products as much as you can, they use too much in the way of resources for what they actually do. Honestly your best bet as far as security is to get a good handful of specialized tools that do one thing really well as opposed to one program that tries to do everything. With a bit of learning you can figure out how to tweak every tool to get a precise security level you want, which takes a bit more work than 'set it and forget it' but offers in the end a more secure computer.

Anecdote: A friend of mine had an old expired trial version of bullguard still installed on his PC, and was using something else. After playing WoW last night and getting a 8 - 11 fps, I decided enough was enough, and uninstalled MSE, sytraight away the high running CPU returned to its normal 1-3, and my fps bounced back up to 60 as normal.
