				<title>Startin a Red Scorpion army</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ Hey folks,<br /> <br /> (Yes it's another Marine thread <img src="/s/i/a/39ea8e0dbfb45dcc6b802cd0e198dba3.gif" border="0"> ) <br /> <br /> Just been on a bit of a spree and have bought myself a Marine Battleforce and Command Squad, also picked up Sevrin Roth's kit, the Red Scorps veteran upgrade kit and a load of RS shoulderpads from Forge World. It's mainly a project to do at the moment while I'm on some down time, but when I get back to civilisation, I'm planning on taking it with me and getting some games involved. I'll be picking up <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(749);'>IA8</span> and a new codex, I've only got the 4th ed <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(119);'>SM</span> book, further down the line, but <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(298);'>afaik</span>, the only main difference with the Scorps is the Apothercaries trading in for Sargeants. Which to me, sounds awesome, that and the gorgeous kit for Roth. <br /> <br /> I had originally planned on building up a Blood Ravens army, so I've got a few odds and ends kicking about from many years ago, a lot of Macragge and <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(505);'>AoBR</span> marines, which are decidedly unawesome, but they were cheap, so can't complain. I've also picked up a couple of old (3rd edition?) dreadnaughts, the mean solid pewter fellas, and they've both got assault cannons and <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(571);'>dccws</span>. So I got to thinking about a list for the army, and <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(265);'>FNP</span> on <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(167);'>tac</span> marines suggests getting a bit assaulty, or running gunline and outshooting with potentially stronger(tougher) troops.<br /> <br /> Looking to build the army up to 1500, maybe 1850 eventually, so here's what I own, and what I'm thinking of doing:<br /> <br /> Own: <br /> 1x <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(119);'>SM</span> Captain<br /> 1x Command Squad<br /> 1x Roth+<span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(337);'>HG</span><br /> ~30x <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(167);'>Tac</span> Marines, with Flamers, Meltas, Missiles, Sarges etc<br /> 5x Scouts<br /> 5x Assault Marines<br /> 2x Dreadnaughts<br /> 1x Rhino<br /> <br /> Obviously, I'm going to need some more transports at a later date, possibly swapping the Rhino out for a couple of Razorbacks maybe even drop pods and maybe adding a <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(87);'>LR</span>/Predator depending which is more cost effective these days.List wise, I'm thinking something like this, I'm not too clued up on the latest book, so some things here may be incorrect, by all means correct me <img src="/s/i/a/c944477abc92c1c101da485e07ff06d8.gif" border="0"><br /> <br /> <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(56);'>HQ</span>: <br /> Libby+Honour Guard<br /> 10x <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(167);'>Tac</span> Marines, Flamer+Missile/<span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(330);'>MM</span>, Apothecary, Transport<br /> 10x <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(167);'>Tac</span> Marines, Flamer+Missile/<span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(330);'>MM</span>, Apothecary, Transport<br /> 5x Scouts, possibly with Telion (if this is doable, I like the notion of picking off specific models...unless i read something wrong about him.)<br /> Unit of Sternguard, I hear they're rather killy.<br /> 2x Dreadnaughts, I'm thinking on buying some different arms for em if they're compatible, possibly also with drop pods.<br /> Land Raider for.. soemthing, maybe some assault termies<br /> ..asssault termies! <br /> <br /> I'll admit I should really get a proper look at the codex, but if I can get an idea for an army together, it'll make future purchases much simpler.<br /> <br /> Cheers for reading!<br /> <br /> Edit: Just won a Tech Marine and another Apothecary offa eBay, bonus.<br /> ]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ What codex are you using? Codex: Spacemarine doesn't have any units that include apothecaries other than the command squad. Unless you if you mean sargeant when you say apothecary. <br /> <br /> Regarding your question, it is a bad idea to split your squads as they aren't as survivable than if they were 10 man strong. A special rule existed like that in the 4th ed <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(119);'>SM</span> Codex for chapters that feared mutation so much among their battle brothers that they could upgrade sergeants to apothecaries to help safeguard the geneseed. I am guessing that is what its based off of. OF course apothecaries sucked in 4th ed, and now give the squad <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(265);'>FNP</span>, so it seems far less balanced now.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Drop Pods follow special rules, and 1/2 MUST arrive on the first turn and the other 1/2 rolled like normal deepstrikers.<br /> I would suggest, for your elites, 3 squads of 6 Sternguards, each with 3xCombi-Melta and 3xCombi-Flamer all with Drop Pods.<br /> This will let you drop one Sternguard first turn with both dreads, and then the other two wherever you need them most. With access to flamers/meltas and special issue ammo, they can handle most things and the whole unit is only 240 points each (which I think is acceptable for an elite unit with a pod).<br /> If you do this, I would also recommend dropping the <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(5);'>AC</span>'s from the Dreads and going with the Multi-Melta/Heavy Flamer Combo OR upgrading them to Ironclad's.<br /> <br /> Even if you don't make these changes, Assault marines aren't troop choices for normal marine chapters (only <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(10);'>BA</span> Codex based chapters) and shouldn't take a drop pod. You can't assault the turn you land in a pod. Make them another <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(167);'>Tac</span> squad in a rhino, or just have them have jump packs or a rhino (but again, they aren't troops and aren't scoring).]]></description>

I don't know if Red Scorps have their own Force Organization, but you probably have to switch your <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(57);'>HS</span> options around.<br /> <br /> I would go:<br /> Ironclad Dread w/<span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(336);'>HF</span> & <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(563);'>MG</span>, Pod 180<br /> Dread w/<span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(330);'>MM</span> & <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(336);'>HF</span>, EA, Pod 165<br /> 8x Sternguard 4xCombi Melta, 2x Combi-Flamer, 2xCombi-Plasma, Pod -275<br /> <br /> for your elites. Drop the dreads first turn against heavy infantry lists, Stern + <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(330);'>MM</span> dread against armored.<br /> <br /> <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(57);'>HS</span> I would just rock Preds or Vindi's depending on what you have. I would strongly suggest taking at least 2 Vindi's if you take any, or else they will probably targeted first. Something like<br /> Tankbuster Pred -145<br /> 2x Vindi w/EA, Siege Shield -135 each<br /> <br /> or something along those lines.<br /> ]]></description>

I've got a copy of the codex in the post, so I'll hopefully get a proper list sorted out soon. <br /> <br /> There's a post in N&R with the bonuses the RS characters offer, if i'm set on having the apothecaries, i'd have to swap out Roth for Culln, as he's the one offering them. Besides that option, I'm sure they're just vanilla.<br /> <br /> But it's still a while before I'll have the army together and get a game with them as I said. Just needing a notion on where to go next month with some money <img src="/s/i/a/39ea8e0dbfb45dcc6b802cd0e198dba3.gif" border="0"><br /> <br /> I've got the Marines covered, I'll probably stick with Roth + <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(337);'>HG</span> for a while anyway. Just a tidbit for those who don't know much about the awesome chapter that is Red Scorpions. <br /> <br /> So if you are focusing on getting the most out of <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(265);'>FNP</span> I would think gunline is best, it seems more lists have power weapons then have <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(6);'>AP</span> 1-2 weapons that they are going to use on your marines. Problem with splitting your units is only one of the combat squads gets the <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(265);'>FNP</span>. Perhaps then having anti-mech vehicles and having your squads lay down massive anti-infantry fire. Not sure. I also hardly play against Marines.<br /> <br /> I'm not sure how I'm going with my list either but yeah that Librarian is a huge part of getting this force.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ To get those three pods in at the end of turn one <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(269);'>Id</span> add 2 more pods to the list somewhere - the devestator unit for example.   With 5 pods in the list you can deploy 3 units turn one and hold the other 2 back EMPTY.  Deploy the owning units of these 2 empty drop pods normally.  A Dakka Dread and a unit of Devestators would be solid choices as you would want them to be shooting and dont really care if their Drop Pods ever arrive.  In <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(316);'>KP</span> missions you actually dont want them to show up.]]></description>

I love it. <br /> Not sure I wanna drop over what... £150 on drop pods though! <br /> <br /> <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(57);'>HS</span> choices I'll probably take some small blast spam <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(29);'>Devs</span>, with either loads <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(328);'>ML</span> or some Plasma. Couple of Predators as well, one anti armour, one anti infantry. Still, I'm a while away from having a full army, I'm still taking mold lines off my battleforce, only got 2 marines put together so far! ]]></description>
