Re:warmachine: menoth - what warcaster should i choose

starting menoth? the best beginner casters IMO are pKreoss, eFeora and Reznik.

eKreoss gives you a really goof package. decent in melee, solid spell list, high focus and a trademark feat that is both simple and very effective. the standard pop and drop tactic with him is pretty good, but i dont want to see you fall into that loop, and would rather see you round out your force from the getgo. so maybe something like this:

High Exemplar Kreoss
Redeemer
Fire of Salvation
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 3 Grunts)
Exemplar Errants (Leader and 9 Grunts)
Exemplar Errant Officer & Standard Bearer
Temple Flameguard (Leader and 9 Grunts)
Temple Flameguard Officer & Standard
The Covenant of Menoth
Vassal Mechanik
Vassal of Menoth

with this list you have a beater jack (fires) and have your ranged jack that kreoss can spill focus into to thin out infantry, plus he can assist in a pop and drop if you feel like it. Choir, covenenat, vassal and mechanik as per usual, these are things you will see in most Menoth lists. TFG with UA give you a solid melee unit/tarpit, and the errants give you a ranged element that are also very hitty in combat.

i like running eFeora jack heavy, since escort is such a good spell, i normally love the avatar in any list, but not here, so looking at a good jack heavy build i like:

Feora, Protector of the Flame
Redeemer
Templar
Vanquisher
Choir of Menoth (Leader and 5 Grunts)
Exemplar Bastions (Leader and 4 Grunts)
The Covenant of Menoth
Vassal Mechanik
Vassal Mechanik
Vassal of Menoth
Vassal of Menoth

this build focuses on the jacks, an the standard menoth support is bolstered to keep them runniing. redeemer and vanquisher are nice for troop thinning and the templar and bastions can crack the armor. coveneant as per ususal. the mechaniks keep the jacks alive and the vassal let them swing more (offensive) or escape charges with enliven (defensive). upkeep escort from the getgo. eFeora has a bond, most people like to bond the 'deemer, which is a solid choice, since laying doun 3+1 AOEs per round that couse auto fire is really nice, especially on feat turn.

Reznik is a more aggressive guy, he can end the game in personal combat rather quickly. i use his feat on his assassination run, but it can be used stifle jack usage and upkeep heavy casters. i normally cast engine of destruction, charge in, pop feat then kill a gogo. it also hoses hordes since they drop all the fury, so they have so way to transfer damage. so with him i like aggressive lists. he sort of has 2 ways of making lists, either puting iron aggression on the avatar and supporting it, or run a large battlegroup and focus on perdition. personally i like the avatar ill just go with that:

High Executioner Servath Reznik
Devout
Avatar of Menoth
Exemplar Bastions (Leader and 4 Grunts)
Exemplar Errants (Leader and 9 Grunts)
Exemplar Errant Officer & Standard Bearer
The Covenant of Menoth
The Wrack (3 wracks)
Vassal Mechanik
Vassal of Menoth

not a very conventional list, but basicllly you use the avatare as either a battering ram or an expensive diversion. iron aggression on him makes him ABSURD. have a mechainc and vassal trail near him to keep him moving and annoying. if you enemy focuses on him all the better, then you other 15+ weaponmasters can wreck face. if they ignore the avatar, then he is free to run wild and crazy. even with minimum focus he can easily wreck most warjacks. get a lane in with reznik, cast engine fo destruction and bring it home for the home team.

these lists are far from optimal, and are only what i would run personally. i think prime kreoss is your best bet, since his solid feat and spell list really makes him shine.

Re:warmachine: menoth - what warcaster should i choose

Quick answerr: as many as you can afford.

Warmachine is expensive to buy into, even compared to GW. However while having an extra unit or jack to swap into an army is expensive and only has a limited effect on the veriety of a list swapping out a warcaster is relatively cheasp and yet radically changes the list.

Consider what units oslos and jacks you want to buy, buy them. Then get as many warcasters as you can afford with the rest of the budget. 50pts total of units plus one warcaster is one army with limited swappability at 35pts, however 45pts total of units and four warcasters is four very different armies at 35pts.
