XV9 Hazard Battlesuit with Fusion Cascades

I've recently assembled the XV9 Hazard Suit with Fusion Cascades and I have to say:

One of the most annoying at the time, but at the end the most satisfying kits I have ever put together. The sheer spectacle of the model when you hold it in your hands! The guns are taller than space marine models (measuring about 4cm long or for those on the imperial system: a bit more than 1-1/2").

The entire model stands around 7cm tall (nearly 3"), maybe 7-1/2cm if you make it stand up completely straight. Then again what's the point of an XV9 if you're not going to dynamically pose it?

The elbow joints connecting the fusion cascades to the shoulder are a joke (one snapped, so I pinned the joint again, bringing the grand total of pins in that joint to 3) The most difficult part was having to pin the elbow piece through the shoulder into the ball joint, connecting 3 pieces together (elbow, shoulder and torso) and having it line up perfectly.

A few things I appreciate about the model are seperate thigh and calf pieces so you can bend the knee anywhere from straight to a right angle, meaning lots of dynamic posing.

Though I lost the instructions, the model itself was fairly obvious in its construction. For every piece in the XV8 Crisis suit plastic kit, the XV9 splits it into 2 or 3 pieces, but this allows for far more possibilities of posing and less time spent cutting and greenstuffing.

Though it took the better part of a day devoted to putting it together, I have to say it was an entirely enjoyable experience in retrospect (with the exception of the one time I dropped the model, heart stopped).

The base is just pieces from the manufactorum kit cut and put together to look like a flooring tile collapsing on a wall, reducing it to rubble, and a nice platform of the XV9 to land on/push off from. The areas which have been greenstuffed on the base are just supposed to be mounds upon which to stick some sand, to make it look like a built up of the stuff.

The tilt in the head I thought made the model look more threatening, as if examining the enemy before it struck. The fins on top felt unneccessary at first, but once put on make the model appear far larger and daunting than without (though I have yet to get a Phased Ion Guns kit or O'Reilly so see what the shoulder-mounted vents do to the aesthetic compared to the stabilisation fins).

It is too bad this model's rules are only found in the IA apocalypse 2 book, and should be made readily available in a regular IA, else I will now barely ever get to show off this model on the battlefield. The fusion cascades are dangerous with d3 S6 melta shots each, easily comparable to the 2 twin linked burst cannon XV9 if you get on average 4 shots (though I guess the rerolls on the burst cannons really help).

That's pretty much all I have to say about this model.

Re:XV9 Hazard Battlesuit with Fusion Cascades

Well forgeworld isn't known for its extensive customizeable kits. You can customize other kits with forgeworld, but barely ever customize the forgeworld kits themselves.

And to be honest it's like an XV88 broadside suit compared to a regular crisis suit here: the vents are because there is excessive heating within the phased ion guns themselves (don't ask me why the Tau ever invented Gets Hot! weapons even for O'Reilly's special suit, makes no fluff sense)

And they have excess range anyhoo, burst cannons are 18", fusion cascades are 12", phase ion guns are 24" so I guess that's why they ditched the stabilization fins because they have to dart around less because they don't get as close as the other.
