NEWCC Results & Plans

Had a great time at the Northeast Warhammer Club Challenge over the weekend. I competed with my 40k club, as that was the system which determined the winner this year. Next year it switches back to Warhammer Fantasy, as this event alternates between the two.

All told I believe the event had eight 4 man teams for 40k, and another six teams for the Warhammer side event. Winners were as follows:

Warhammer 40k
Victorious Team: Cold Steel Mercenaries
2nd place: Inner Circle (including Tony, the NOVA winner, who I think may have been the only player to hand one of us a loss)
3rd place: NorthEast Big Gunz
Individual Overall: Matt Cassidy using IG (Cold Steel Mercs)
Individual Best General: Alex Fennell using Blood Angels (Cold Steel Mercs)
Best Painted: Doug Waltham, with Nurgle Daemons (Gaming G?)

Warhammer Fantasy
Victorious Team: Carroll County Ganstas
2nd: Jervis' Johnsons
3rd: Iron Fist League
Individual Overall: Travis Weyforth, using Orcs & Goblins (CCG)
Individual Best General: Corey Reynolds, using Warriors of Chaos (CCG; also much-loved organizer of The Crossroads GT)
Best Painted: John Reinheardt, with Vampire Counts (Big Gunz NE)

Full results here:
http://www.biggunz-ne.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=category&layout=blog&id=1&Itemid=50

I had four very fun and challenging games. Faced Tyranids, a Necron/Ork pairing in the doubles game, then two mech IG lists (team Inner Circle and team NE Big Gunz), getting three Draws on the primary (but taking the secondary and tertiary in each), and one low-scoring Win in the doubles round. May need to update to a 5th ed army at some point...

Organizationally this one was not quite up to Mike's/Showcase's usual standard, but wasn't run by him. Last year's winning club was responsible to organize, with Showcase being the host site. The organization wasn't really bad; mostly just slow, being shot in the foot by a couple of factors. One being that only four of the 40k teams actually arrived within the 8am-9am reg window before dice were supposed to roll; one of the clubs didn't show until around 9:45; I think we got rolling around 10 or so. Another element that slowed things down was that two of the clubs were short a man and had to recruit ringers from the Big Gunz, which left them fewer people to do data entry and actually run the thing. Overall I think we got finished a bit after 10pm. Otherwise the site was great, and the tournament format pretty solid. I think it might have been a little ambitious to try four games in a day at 1850; 1500 might have been better. Still, it was a great time.

Having given criticism, of course, the onus is now on my club to do as well or better! The challenge of this event, of course, is that the winning team being responsible for running it next time means less continuity. We have already been brainstorming for WH next year, and have some good ideas, I think. We may also make it a two-day event next year, to get a bit more of a GT flavor, and make it more worth long travel time for clubs that aren't right in the neighborhood. Our plan is to have event details formalized and publicized at least a couple months in advance to help people make travel plans and solidify their teams.

Results are up on www.BigGunz-NE.com

Full results are up on www.BigGunz-NE.com

Yes it was difficult having our data entry people being used up as ringers.
We did the best we could considering that shortfall, and late start caused by teams not showing up.

We also requested in advanced weather teams wanted 1850 or 1500, and most wanted 1850. The 1500 point level change would have hurt attendance from our pre tournament inquiries.

If any names are misspelled, sorry, but next time print neat when signing up.

Thank you,
Al

Wow @ the fantasy results! The top player was running O&G, and had four games earning 24 points!! They can be scary now...

Mannahnin, where is your club located (I'm assuming that's where it will be next year)? Might try to talk some guys from Ineptus Astartes into making it up.

It looked like a great time! I wandered by somewhere between 3 and 4 when everyone was on break. Must've been a long drive back at 10pm, though

NEWCC Results (partial) & Plans

Al- Thanks for all the work running this thing! It was a fun time, and we had a great time competing against you guys. Justin and I have been shooting the breeze at tournaments for 3 or 4 years now, so it was very cool to finally face off against him in the final round.

Quick question- where on the Big Gunz site? I'm looking at it now and can't see any NEWCC results. The latest announcement on the front page I'm seeing is from Sunday the 10th, "Site Update this Thursday evening~ 10/14/2010". I'm hitting Ctrl + F5 too, and still not seeing anything.

RiTides- We're all over the place. The club's originally from England and there's still a bunch of them there (and a few in France and elsewhere). US members are presently residing in ME, NH, MA, CT and a few other states scattered around the country. The two most likely possibilities for location next year would be in the Hartford area (which would allow us to coordinate easily with a store one of the Mercs runs, and not be too far North for the NY/PA/NJ crowd), or possibly back at Showcase's bunker again.

NEWCC Results (partial) & Plans

Al's redoing the results sheet. The column with what army people had was off. Possibly from loading the excell file from the computer at the bunker onto a stick and then loading it into his home computer. We noticed it and will post it up when fixed.

John noticed it said he was playing dwarfs and had some rude comments along the lines of "Dwarves? Why does it say I played Dwarves? I hate stunties, always have".

NEWCC Results & Plans

The armies are off for fantasy on your post.

Warhammer Fantasy
Victorious Team: Carroll County Ganstas
2nd: Jervis' Johnsons
3rd: Iron Fist League
Individual Overall: Travis Weyforth, using Orcs & Goblins (CCG)
Individual Best General: Corey Reynolds, using "Dark Elves" (CCG; also much-loved organizer of The Crossroads GT)
Best Painted: John Reinheardt, with "Warriors of Chaos" (Big Gunz NE)

I do no remember Travis's army, but I do not recall him playing Orcs & Gobo's?
I was a fun event, lots of different armies around for the day, and its always nice to see the guys I know from the NE GT circuit. For those who have never seen it, the Showcase Comics Bunker in the Mall is a nice one, its off the main causeway, so it does decrease some foot traffic, but you still get the people coming by with the shocked look on their face.

My favorite response of the day:
"You painted all those, do you guys have lives?"
My response: "Yep, we have lives, most of them are pretty good to. I'm soon to be married, teach mixed marital arts, work a full time job, and have a great quality of life. I know all these guys, we are all about the same. Want a painting lesson?"
His response: "Yes I do! What's that big thing that looks smashy?"
Me "Hellcannon"
"I'll take 2!" "Can you teach me an armbar?" Looking at demons... "They make half naked chicks, i'm totally getting my wife into this."

Travis used Daemons. Think we fixed the armies. One of the sorts or transferring data from one comp to another got the armies off. Should be good now.

One thing that became apparent to us is that sometimes the GIGO principle applies. We had a couple of cases where deciphering players handwriting was problem. One we didn't anticipate is where one player fills out the form, reverses the numbers for him and his opponent by accident, and his opponent doesn't check things.)

Another reminder to not by lazy and let your opponent fill things out. At least glance at it and make sure the form is correct before turning it in.)
