For me it is worth it to run WG with PF and Combi melta over the ten man squad with second special weapon, i just find that i don't use the second power weapon that much, usually once maybe twice in a game, so it makes just as much sense to do the WG model, and i love the bonus in Leadership. So if i drop a marine from the squad and take off the meltagun and powerfist and havea wolf guard with a fist and a combi melta it should be alright?


That would be my main recommendation, after that i think that you should be pretty good, one other thought would be depending on what you are facing JotWW might not be the best option, i assume that since there is no room in the rhinos that your Rune Priest will be with the LF, if that's the case then JotWW is great if you expect to see alot of monsters, (Tyranids in particular hate it), but if you expect to see foot slogging armies, then i love murderous Hurricane. Those are usually the two powers i take besides Living Lightning. Although i have had some success with stormcaller against mechanized IG. (although that works better when i have him in a rhino going first and can cast it to affect all my transports simultaneously.

I'd try to get some wolf standards on those GH, and switch the PF onto a WG w/PF, but other than that looks solid


Wolf Standards are also nice if you can find the points for them i usually would try and squeeze in MotW before i worry about the standards as i find that to be very brutal in CC, if you are not able to find the points for it though i still think you have a pretty solid force. It's the same all around except no Plasma in the Grey Hunters, each has a Wolf Guard with Power Fist and Combi-Melta, and the Rune Priest has a place to ride. I prefer LasPlas Razorbacks myself but if you prefer TL Lascannon that's fine. I just like having the extra weapon so a single weapon destroyed result doesn't completely render the tank useless.

I second this. I used to be a proponent of not taking Wolf Guard saying that 1 better Ld wasn't worth losing the 2nd special weapon. Then I had two squads of GH break and run in all 3 games of my last tournament (they got escorted off the board by enemy units of course). And in every instance I failed the test but would have passed with a WG in the unit. Plasma weaponry is less useful than it was in the past, primarily due to the ease of getting cover saves in this edition. Cover is such a huge part of the game these days that Plasma is not generally worth the risk of killing yourself. A model double tapping with a Plasma Gun has about an 11% chance of smoking himself and only about a 55% chance of killing a MEQ in cover. There are some uses for it (namely on Razorbacks with a Lascannon and TL Plasma, for the reasons listed above), but generally Melta weaponry is the better buy. More useful against vehicles in a unit that generally likes to get close, and it can be used to deny armor saves much like Plasma Guns but without the risk of killing your own model. I can't speak for the OP, but I['m gonna guess the main intent is for the Long Fangs to take covered positions and for the Rhino units along with the Razorbacks to advance up the field as a mobile firing line. As for the units selected they seem pretty self explanatory.....the Rune Priest is an obvious choice for a commander, and Grey Hunters are probably the best infantry in the game right now. Long Fangs are also some of the most efficient ranged support options available. Everything has a transport for mobility.

The main intention is to get myself back into competitive playing i have spent the past 2 years painting (before that i was a good player in my honest opinion, i didnt loose to many games).

You could drop some stuff and turn it in a TWC Deathstar list (would probably have to drop at least 1 Long Fangs units and 1 Grey Hunters, and would then add a Wolf Lord with TW mount and 2-3 TWC + War Gear).
You could add in 2 more Wolf Guard with TDA and a CML for the Long Fangs, then use the last of the points to give a bit more assorted wargear to the Grey Hunters/Rune Priest (WTT, MotW, etc.). This is nice because you don't need to buy many more models, and adds some decent firepower and much needed psychic protection.
You could add another Grey Hunters squad like you have there, with WG and I think have enough for a WTT. This will make your army even more durable, but you may struggle with lists with super tough Deathstar units.

Those would be my most competitive options. You could alternatively add speeders or wolf scouts for some speed/tactical deployment or even lone wolves.
