scale comparison

hello dakka,

i have a question today to you fellas,

has anyone some scaleshots in comparison from Starwars , heroclix, mageknight and so on to Imperial guard?

i want to broaden my horizons on usable models. i dont want to order stuff from professionals but i want to search through ebay with a wider range of options.
i aim for stand in imperial characters and troops, so if you´ve got any additions of bigger systems of minis that might fir the bill then i would be very thankful...

thanks again in advance, vik

I'd stay away from Heroclix, mageknight, and the new D&D mini's if I were you. They're made out of this funky rubber stuff that doesn't really hold a shape too well. Reaper is a good company that has been around for friggin ever....same with Ral Partha. You can usually get blisters of metal mini's from either of those company's for significantly less than a GW blister.

i had recruited these companys instantly as i own quite abit from them, but alas only fantasy figs. now for my steampunk gathering i would use soe of the steamy versions of D&D and mageknight, cause the have quite a few of them in their range. your argument of rubbery feel to the model is a very valid one. i havent had the oportunity to "crop a feel" to one of the recent versions of Starwars models, did you have "feeled" them too?

thanks again agro

but tho the problem of material quality is touched, has someone a scaleshot for comparision?

thanks again in advance, vik

Hi Vik, for steam punk looks, well, the Warmachine minsi have that as their armor is even steam powerd! they wear armor that is steam enhanced for strength in hefting their weapons and all of that.Just swap our the pistols if you like and give them las or bolter pistols instead, and they are 28-30mm scale minis with cloaks and steam plants on their backs as well! Prvateer Press is their making company.

Come to think of it, they also make for good stand ins for Inquisition staff! same with the Reaper minis.

Re:scale comparison

Dark Sword miniatures has some really nice detailed figures made of metal you may want to see. Best. miniatures. I've. Seen. Ever.

As for Mage Knight, Hero Clix and D&D minis: yes they're made of softer plastics but as long as you use parts that are not flimsy (i.e. swords, staffs, or such) and you won't use the part to connect to two other plastic parts or a metal part, it's golden. Mage Knight and Hero Clix differs a bit in scale compared to Gamesworkshop minis, but only a bit. And their sculpts aren't exactly... exact, so sometimes they're just within the 28mm range, sometimes 30mm. D&D minis are just the same size as 40k and fantasy, only the proportions are nearer reality (smaller heads and hands, for one thing). That means you can't use the Star Wars heads (they're made of the same company), but you can use some of Hero Clix's or Mage Knight's.

Needless to say, I use all of these miniature lines on my DnD campaign (which is steampunk-oriented).

scale comparison

at shas, i really like warmachine models, but they´re for now a tad expensive. tho i have to concede with you they are THE incarnation of steampunk. and the use for inquisition is not arguable^^

thanks for the answers starsdawn, i have thought so, and there are some models on ebay i came to see that would be ok to use as they would be heavy units and so on...so not very strong the need to be directly in scale then...as for the star wars moinis, i probably would do a head swap anyway as i will be getting quite a lot of gasmasked heads in the future...hmmm.
and one further thing: would you be so nice as to show us your DnD campaign models? that would be really nice of you^^

thanks fellas, vik

cool man, thats exactly what i´ve been asking for...

so i guess taken the haloclics for reference heroclixs and the likes are out of the question...

the animatactics look tasty but a bit much to looming...for guard that is...
hasslefree is a very nice prodution line. one day i will go bezerk on their range...so much good value there...

Studio McVey , that figure looks so cool, saw her here so often and she still rocks^^ bit larger than average but with a gun like this it´s forgiven...
and your reaper mnini is a bit hefty with that plasma gun, but over all delicious mini...so i´m now better set for hunting down some minis on ebay thank you very much...

again by the way a new avatar? who is that now?

cheers, vik
