1250 Point Tyranid Burrow Army

Trying to create a massive burrow army, if you have suggestions please post

HQ
Tyranid Prime

Elites
3x Venomthropes

Troops
5 Swarms of 10man Hormagaunts

Heavy Support
3 Trygons
2 evolved into Tyrgon Primes
1 Trygon Prime has regeneration

1250 on the dot

My entire is put in reserve, then on turn two at least (hopefully) one Trygon burst from below. Then the part of my army that did not come in on the second turn (because you have only arrive the turn after the Trygon comes, right?) come bursting out of the hole. Venomthropes provide cover and defense to the H-guants coming out and absorb shots. Trygons unleash hell upon anyone close enough. That is it.

1250 Point Tyranid Burrow Army

The hole the Trygon makes after it burrows in can only be used by units arriving from reserve in subsequent turns. You still have to roll reserves for every unit placed in reserve on turn two. This means that, theoretically, everything but your Trygons could come in on turn two, meaning they'd have to work their way all the way across the map, since they'd have to come in from your table edge. Or, the Trygons could come in along with the rest of your army, but the gaunts and thropes would still have to come in from your table edge. I like the idea of a burrowing Nid list, but it's too unreliable (especially with my luck making reserve rolls) to be effective a majority of the time.

To add to the previous comment. Only 1 unit can come through per turn per Trygon hole, so unless all 3 come out, you're only getting 1 unit the next turn. Honestly, chances are this will go poorly for you. I like Nid reserve armies, but I don't see this working well.

Re:1250 Point Tyranid Burrow Army

A "burrowing" army would presumably have a trygon, mawloc and ripper swarms in as they are the only troops with burrowing in their description.

If you want to look at other troops that just appear without using deep strike or spores then you have ymgarls, lictors and deathleaper. Possibly normal stealers at a push as they have infiltrate.

For the trygon tunnel ability you probably want 20-30 strong units of hormogaunts and termagants to pile through.

Fluffy, but not all that competitive.

Ok, I see the reasoning.

So how about 3 Mawlocs
and add some fluff and say mycenic spores=hormagaunts can tunnel

1250 Point Tyranid Burrow Army

If you want a full burrowing army it will not be competitive. Even a deepstrike/burrowing army has its downsides:

- Flying Hive tyrant (deepstrike)
- tervigon (troop choice and possible to outflank)
- 10 gaunts
- trygon
- trygon
- trygon

and if there are any points left..pick ymgarl genestealers..

You really have to catch those skimmers with you trygons because there will be no anti tank.

1250 Point Tyranid Burrow Army

Yeah, as the above posters have probably made clear, an all burrowing army is very unpredictable and could go wrong very easily. I think it'd much easier to create an all deep striking army, so more myceticc spores etc. Also a hive tyrant with hive commander would be useful with this type of army at higher points value as he'll let one troops choice outflank and make some reserve rolls more reliable.
