So, I recently switched to Tau and need help constructing my 500 PT tau army (:

I already got a very very basic list, which consist of troops since most of the missions I will be playing will involve objectives.

I wasn't really sure on an HQ yet either, also, my main opponent will be playing SM


Troops:
11 fw with one shas'lui : 130 pt
Devilfish : 80 pt

10 Kroot : 70 pt
10 Kroot : 70 pt


Heavy Support:
Hammerhead : 90 pt


That's it dakka, and please forgive me if this list is absolute bs, since I have no idea how to play tau yet (:

At this low point value, I'd suggest running a Shas'el with TL Missile Pod and a Targeting Array for a total of 78 points. Also, the Hammerhead needs to buy weapon systems, which will bump its cost up to at least 115 points if you take the cheapest options. If you want to run a railgun at 500 points, I'd suggest dropping the Hammerhead for a Broadside. Other than that, Kroot are very fragile, and you might want to consider dropping one squad of Kroot altogether and reducing the Fire Warrior Team to 8, then running another 8 man Fire Warrior Team.
