Legion of the Damned

I have a lot of fun with a squad of 10 of these with MM and MG and a PF on the leader. They actually do a really good job at Deep Striking in and killing virtually any tank your opponent can field. Then they are pretty tough to kill the next turn. Would anyone ever consider using them in a competitive setting though? They are rather expensive. A squad of 5 with MM and melta isn't that taxing and gets the job done well. Thoughts?

They are good vs units like MCs that normally ignore armor saves. I never considered doing that because I assumed you couldn't combine Deep strike abilities like that. Looking at the rules it seems pretty clear it can be done. It's amazing because you can use it to remove them from CC and keep them shooting with GOI. Take VOD as your second power? It's really doesn't go along with the LotD fluff but it sounds like it would be tough to kill and would be picking targets to die all over the field.
The unit should really have FNP. Then I imagine they'd be almost necessities in marine lists.

I think the squad of 10 Idea with the Libi is a sound strategy, realistically you wouldn't be getting hit by more than 1 unit of small arms if you are placing them tactically and if your lucky you won't have to kill of the important weapons ether - They can still do their job with just the special weapons. You need 30 wounds from any type of weapon to kill them all (statistically at best) So I would still call them (tough.)

With Vulcan they become even better.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
I love sterns as well. LotD are just so unique I'd really like to take them to a tourney.

That fearless and relentless isn't putting easy wounds on MC's or tough troops like plague marines, it's not rapid firing ap3 rounds and it's not ignoring cover vs soft troops. Also it's not firing 10 (!) melta's at 2 different targets.

It's nice, but not worth the premium (just pointing out that slot competition is part of what you pay for!)
