The changling vs. crown of command

I'm refering to the VC item, the one that lets nearby units fight at the vamp's WS, i'm just not sure if thats the corect name for it.

Anyways, in a game over the weekend, i watched a game between DoC and VC. About half way through a horde of undead with a hero in it (wight king?) crashed into a horde of pink horrors with the changling in it. the changling swapped pretty much every stat it could with the wight king, but we got a bit confused (and a little argumentative) as to what happens with the crown item thrown in. We figured there was three potential ways it could have worked:
#1 - the changling swaps his stat line and gets the enhanced WS of the wight king, but leaving the wight at WS3
#2 - the changling swaps stats but doesnt receive the bonus WS
#3 - the changling swaps stats, gets the bonus WS, and the wight king keeps the bonus WS as his unit is still in range of the vamp with the crown
We ended up playing option #3, but was that the right way to go? should it have been a straight up swap of their base stats, then factor in the crown?
Thanks for the feedback

The changling vs. crown of command

The player who's turn it is decides the sequence of events.
So on the vampires turn, the changling would go first, then the wight king would get the vampires weapon skill.

On the daemon players turn, he'd let the crown give the boosted weapon skill, then swap stats.

GW has been really consistent 8th edition, resolving all these conflicts with the player who's turn it is choosing. Advantage to the aggressive player who charges.

-Matt
