I live on South Beach. In general there isn't much of a rock/metal scene down here. There are some places in Ft. Lauderdale (Revolution Live, The Culture Room) As far as gaming stores we've got a good store called Sunshine Roleplayers (or wargaming, the name kinda changed) Wednesdays are 40k "league" night (no one really keeps track of wins or loses)

@ KilKrazy
The winterhaven is under construction.

I lived in Miami for 3 years while attending FIU. Culture Room has put on some great metal shows. I'd also look for the Kitchen Club (http://www.myspace.com/thekitchenclub). Not sure where they are located now, but the few times I went back in '06 it had a diverse selection of metal, industrial, and goth music, with sexy models dancing on pedastals.

There's also an indie music club/dive bar called Churchill's (www.churchillspub.com). Fun place with live music, indie rocker chicks, and Boddington's beer for cheap. The surrounding neighborhood isn't too great though.

Sunshine Roleplayers is a small, cramped store that never felt welcoming to me. South Florida's gaming scene is almost non-existent anyway; people are understandably too preoccupied with chasing skirts to paint little toy soldiers.

Noble713 wrote:
Sunshine Roleplayers is a small, cramped store that never felt welcoming to me. South Florida's gaming scene is almost non-existent anyway; people are understandably too preoccupied with chasing skirts to paint little toy soldiers.

Thats true of most of FL. I blame it on the weather...there is something to do outside all year long. Its kinda hard to attract people to an indoor activity. Also, depending on your area the general culture doesnt support geek stuff. The ethnic folks dont get into gaming, neither do rednecks...and those groups occupy a huge chunk of FL population. Add in the old people and tourists and there isnt much left. Back around the mid-late 1990s there were a few decent stores kicking around, now they are much harder to find. Many tend to be the very tiny LGS type that have about $500 in inventory, but can order you whatever you need, at full retail, if you want to wait a week or two for it to come in.

Oh, hes right too...not a single GW store in the whole state (WTF is the deal with that?). The nearest one is in Tenn IIRC.

The best store Ive run into in the last decade is SciFi City in Orlando...they are huge. Even still, they have scaled down the mini gaming from what they carried years ago, and put in tables for cards and a bunch of huge TVs for console gaming.

Growing up in CT there seemed to be a much better gaming scene than there is here in FL, but we had cold, snow, and freezing rain for at least 6 months of the year. My favorite store occupied two full store fronts, one half was scale modeling, the other half gaming. In the basement there was a huge gaming table. They used to carry all kinds of funky models too...small production resin stuff too. Sadly they closed due to the economy...back in 2007 I think it was.
