Ok, not sure if this is the right section but i was wondering if anyone knew of a company that will produce custom decals/transfers if you email them the artwork?
I can't remember the namce but there is some WW2 decals sold at Maelstrom (sorry too lazy to look) and I am pretty sure he will make up your designs.

There is of course the fact that you can buy decal paper for your home printer (Antenociti's Workshop sells it). Doe's anyone know if there are any drawbacks to this, I've never used it?

Custom Decals/transfers

It's pretty straightforward to produce your own. I've done it for my marines, and it wasn't a big deal at all. Three points:

- Expect to have to paint around the edges a bit to obscure the excess, even for clear paper. I mostly use white decal paper and then paint the edges because it produces more vibrant colors and I don't have interior holes in my decals.

- The paper is kind of expensive. It's reasonably priced all by itself, but most places I saw selling it have shipping rates that while typical and reasonable, basically double the price of getting a pack of sheets.

- It might just be my pack, but I've had a serious degradation in quality as I've gone on. I feel like the sheets themselves are aging or something, producing wrinkleish artifacts on the decals. The first couple prints were pristine. Again though, that may be just my sheets, something wrong with my printer, or who knows what.

Custom Decals/transfers

My method.

1. Print on clear/laser transfer paper.
2. Paint white on the area where I am going to put the transfer.
3. Use Microsol and Microset to position and flatten down the transfer.
4. When dry, varnish over with gloss acrylic.
5. Weathering.
6. Final varnish layer is spray matt or satin, as appropriate.

Speaking as a moderator, Painting & Modelling is the best forum to raise this point -- someone was asking in there last night about where to get transfer paper.

notprop wrote:Do you use any of the decal softening/setting fluids? Again, could be a printer issue (dirty heads or something), but other material seems fine, as were the original sheets I printed. I just assumed that the decal paper had either started breaking down over time, or the chemicals had rubbed off a bit, or something like that. But, I haven't seen anyone else talking about that issue so it could be a freak thing.
