Like many on here I'm in the process of coming up with a personalised Space Marine force. The idea behind this colour scheme is that they are a sub-chapter of the Blood Ravens. Still looking for a title but as a WIP I'm going with Bone Ravens. No fluff really yet...i'm tempted to make them on the verge of turning traitor with some special rules to reflect their darker way but as I said it's a WIP.

ANYWAY - I'm looking for a few tips here and there. In particular:

- Weathering
- Cloth
- Skin

I hope you like the coloru scheme and I apologise for the dodgy lighting in the photos...I'll get a few more later

Thanks for any advice, pointers, tips or constructive criticism!

The model has a very light coat of white primer, a rough coat of Bleached Bone. It is then covered in an old GW wash 'Chestnut Wash' one of the old blue-topped 90s bottles (still my favourites!!) and then a final coat of bleached bone on top of that.

For my faces I'm currently following Les Burley's tips which I found on one of his vids i.e.

Dwarf Flesh
Wash (I go for Flesh Wash rather than his Liche Purple one)
Highlight with Elf Flesh, Bleached Bone and SKull White.

I'll check your one out too though

I stripped it down but unfortunately my paints are starting to thicken (Damn you GW and your flip tops!)

Can anyone recommend a good paint thinner and how much I should use in a typical GW pot?

I like that idea. Special rules will have to be a friendly game thing, but don't let that stop you from painting them up that way -- lots of folks field a "traitor" guard army that plays straight from the codex. If you stick with Bone Ravens, have a look at the Carrion models from Tomb Kings (might use them as Furies or Raptors if you want to build an "either/or" army -- some people collect the models to field a loyalist or chaos list with most the same units).

I like the paint scheme.

Acrylic paint is suspended in water, so distilled water makes a good thinner. Also, there are products available that keep the paint from drying as quickly if that's what you are looking for -- allows for wet blending and so forth. Look for them at an art supply -- usually called "paint extender." Make sure its for acrylic though.

Another model mid-progress here. A few things to change/update till I'm happy with it obviously. And apologies for the slightly blurry image.
Will get better ones of the mini once it's fully finished. (Edit: I've marked him out as a Librarian via the blue shoulderpads Will probably do similar job with my Chaplain/Apothecary).
