Successful Dark Eldar at 1k

Having just started a Dark Eldar army, I have been trying to write up some decent lists to be used at 1000pts. The problem is, I really don't want to go heavy mech, and I want to use at least two units of Incubi, which means I can't spam trueborn .

The idea with the list is actually to go quite assault-heavy, with Incubi, a Court and Wyches doing most of the CC heavy lifting, but I just can't seem to cram everything that I need into a 1000pt army whilst keeping everything viable (in particular, anti-tank). Normally I would nut out a list on my own, but I have spent hours contenmplating this and I just can't seem to get it all to fit.

In terms of list type, heavy mech is out the window, so hybrid or WWP is the go. I would also prefer a list with an Archon (or better yet, Malys) as the model is gorgeous.

Anyway, I am looking for stories about success people have had with DE at 1k, list ideas in general, and tips for playing assault-orientated DE. Really, and DE-related input would be great.

Thanks is advance to any who provide info!

This has been working for me:

Succubus	Agonizer, blast pistol	100
Bloodbridesx9	Syren, agonizer, blast pistol, 1x shardnet + impaler, 2x razorflail, raider, enhanced sails	257
Wyches x10	Hekatrix, agonizer, 1x hydra gauntlet,1x shardnet + impaler, haywire, raider	230
Warriors x10	Splinter cannon, raider, flickerfield, nightshield	180
Ravager	flickerfield tri-lance 115
Ravager	flickerfield tri-lance 115

997

But then, you put a whole bunch of restrictions on what you want and then said it doesn't work.

I'm not sure that what you are asking for can be done. Perhaps you should start out with a 1000 point list in the Army list section and ask for suggestions from there.

Successful Dark Eldar at 1k

Sorry for any confusion about the list.

To simplify things, I want to create a usable army off this basis;

2x Haemonculi, 2 Liquifier Guns, 2 Webway Portals
7 Incubi
Raider
7 Incubi
Raider

This comes to 598pts.

As the earlier scaffold was a bit complex, just use this. This is the basis for the army, I am interested to know how people would spend the last 402pts.

The other option would be to drop the two WWP and save 70pts, leaving 472pts to get troops and anti-tank.

All suggestions welcome.

*Edit*
Dracos

I don't mean to say it doesn't work, just that I haven't been able to make it work. That is why I'm looking for advice from experienced Dark Eldar players; people who understand the army enough to incorporate units that I like into it whilst remaining semi-competetive. If that is too difficult, just use the above basis for a 1000pt list. But thanks for the input; its a nice list, except is kinda breaks the 'not heavy mech' restriction. It does use five tanks at 1k, even if they're paper airplanes...

Although a slightly weak unit, a 5 man squad of kabalite warriors with a blaster could fill both the need for scoring units and anti-tanks when arriving through WWP.
@wizard12

I like the idea, but I generally find warriors a bit expensive for just one blaster. I really can't justify a single S8 shot for 60pts. As an ork player, I keep comparing it to lootas, who for 75 pts, will get D3x5 S7 shots at 48" range. But I really can't find better ways to squeeze in AT...
Talos? Ideas?

Whats the point in taking the Portals in that list? The Incubi are going to be in the Raiders but vehicles can't use them and with less than half your points left that doesn't leave many units to use them.

You would be really pushing it to get a competitive army having put so many points into those two Incubi units. You have to take some troops and 400ish points is going to be 2 maybe 3 scoring units (2 big units in Raiders or 3 smaller units in Venoms probably). The problem is that this leaves you with pretty much no anti tank capability at all. Most of the the problem is that you are trying to get redundancy in your list but at 1000pts its not really possible. That combination you posted would probably work in a 1750-2000pt list. You could possible fit two small units of Incubi in Venoms (with no Haemonculi attached) but that would still leave you pretty light on scoring and support units at this points level.

As far is going mech or not, DE assault armies either have to be in Raiders/Venoms or should be coming out of Portals, walking them anywhere will end badly. Going a mech route your assault units are going to be Wyches, Archon Courts and Incubi, with a WWP list they you are best to take Beastmasters, Hellions + Baron (both have great threat range coming through the Portal), Harlies (carrying the Portal) and maybe large units of Wyches.

When you are building a list the first thing you generally need to sort out is your troops. At 1000pts its particularly important as you are going to be limited to the compulsory HQ, 2-3 troops and then a couple of support units. If you are wanting to go assault heavy then a couple of Wych units in Raiders would be a good place to start.

Don't compare a 5 man Blaster unit to Lootas, their main purpose to be scoring not to take out light vehicles. Single blasters a bad idea though, either find the points for a Blast Pistol or take full unit with a Dark Lance.

Wizard12 has it correct; the intention of the incubi is to be a big threat; in the opponent's face turn 1, whilst the haemy's chill in the raiders/deploy the portal. My list is pretty flawed in that it lacks ant-tank, as well as anything scary coming out of the portal. Reflecting on my own list, maybe the best solution is to start from scratch.

I agree with powerguy's general structural thingy when determining whether to go mech or foot; my problem is fitting in AT whilst running a Court, Incubi and wyches. The obvious solution is ravagers, but with a pair of ravagers and a transport for each of the above you find a minimum of 5 tanks, without even having two troops choices. The solution is a webway portal over some tanks, but then you lose redundancy as the ravagers deploy with the portal bearers. Thankyou to powerguy, despite raising more questions, your post was very helpful in defining a general structure for mech and webway Deldar.

All in all; confused. I need the help of clever players who can see through this, and through experience, work out a balance for DE that is very combat heavy, whilst still packing a good dollop of AT. And incubi. Don't forget incubi.
