Never seen it happen in-person, very cool photo! I'm surprised it could stay balanced while you pulled out the camera and everything (agree that it's the textured surface causing it most likely).

Apparently there are flaws in dice with round corners and indentations as dots. I guess the side with "6" would be the lightest and you would think, as averages go, would be the side that would face upwards the most. All of my hypothetical, way too ambitious table plans are filled with surfaces that are less than conducive to rolling dice, so I made a dice tower/impassible terrain building to circumvent the issue.
