				<title>Dwarf Rare Unit</title>
				<description><![CDATA[ Ok, so I do like the dwarf rares, but I think they need some kind of powerful unit in there rare slot and not just warmachines.  Now unlike giant mutated rats, giants, hydras, etc. Dwarfs do not seem like a race to have a large creature ("large" + "dwarf" being some kind of oxymoron, right?)<br /> <br /> So what I think would be appropriate would be a unit of dragonslayers, ala the Ogre Kingdom's Maneaters.<br /> <br /> A unit of 3-10 dragonslayers from the hero entry that are skirmish, but cannot take any runic weapons. <br /> <br /> I think this would better fit their background (I cannot use the word "Fluff" for a race as hard as the dwarfs) than a rank and file unit.  Also I think the special unit is a little weak for the background, and far too numerous (exactly how many members of this dying race are taking the slayer oath????) I could never in good conscience take a standardbearer or a tuba player for a unit of suicidal, berserker dwarfs!<br /> <br /> I would love feedback on the idea, even though I am sure that many will disagree with unbreakable + skirmish.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ T5, 2 wounds, no save, 50 points?  Take as many as you want.  As a rare unit, you don't really need a unit size cap, the 25% rare will take care of that.  It's not like a 2nd rank of these guys would be a good idea either.<br /> <br /> How about 35 points, stats as dragon slayers, but they all count as rank and file.  Any model can answer a challenge.<br /> Magical attacks for free, but no other runes.<br /> "Final Oath", when a model is killed in combat, it makes an addition single attack on the model that killed it.<br /> <br /> Really, T5 W2 and naked isn't very good.  Compare them to other 35 point models (flamers and flesh hounds).<br /> <br /> Without these additional bonuses, S4 attacks just aren't that good, and S6 strike last attacks you won't be alive to make.<br /> <br /> I do think it is critical to have them count as rank and file.  It would be a mess to track hit rolls, wound rolls, and wounds on each model individually, with nothing carrying over. 				<description><![CDATA[ @HawaiiMatt  Totally agree with you.  I just love Dwarf fluff on these slayers (really one of the most unique parts of WFB lore) and I hate seeing them all ranked up with a tuba.<br /> <br /> Also want more rare options for dwarfs, their rares are good but not great like skaven, dark elves, etc.<br /> <br /> Brew wagon is perfect! Every army should have one . . . or two.  Actually would be fun to have those work simiilar to the vampire count plague carts where they bump up a unit they are close to.  Would be nice to have my "highly skilled" warriors re-roll to hit.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Y'know, considering grail knights <br /> [T4, W1 A2 <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(157);'>sv</span> 2+, strike at S6 on the charge and lance formation, 5+ wardsave] are only 38 points, it seems like these guys, [what matt suggested] could be toned down a tad. I'd see 30 or even 26 points be operable.<br /> <br /> oh, and their attacks are magical. ]]></description>

It would be better in rare though because then I could take a fighty dwarf lord, which would make me happy. <br /> <br /> Love the slayer hero unit idea. Most people like the idea of bears with dwarfs, but I think carnivorous mounts would be tricky for a race that doesn't roam around a lot.  Only concern would be are goats too similar to Gors?<br /> <br /> I think putting the anvil in rares would be problematic, since the anvil is with the runelord.  <br /> <br /> Dwarfs should have steam tank though, they are masters of steam.  I always thought the Chaos Dwarves were more daemon-engine than steam punk.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ For entertainment value, I like the brew wagon idea.  I've always thought the slayers needed something to make the worth taking <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(71);'>imho</span>.  I was thinking along the lines of runic tattoos for a 6+ ward save vs shooting or magical attacks.  They would at least make it to the fight then, sure they have a death wish, but they want to die in a fight.  I have also thought that they needed something else too, like cavalry of some sort.  They can power a gyrocopter, why not power doom rollers (they already have the blood bowl model).  Maybe also have a stipulation that in order to take a gyrocopter to doom rollers you need to have a master engineer in the army.]]></description>

Letting people customize their anvil of doom to being magic defence based, Damage or a mix. ]]></description>

It just makes sense that the runepriests would want to customize as well.<br /> <br /> My only problem with the goblin hewer, is why are slayers not charging your enemy? And "goblins?" heck, I want a dragon hewer!!!! ]]></description>

Understandable when there's still a lot of resentment from some about firearms being used and breaking with traditional crossbows. Even though they've been using black powder for a long time.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ I know you said you didn't like the idea of a monster in a dwarf army. But personally i'd like to see a big stone golem as a rare choice. Forge World could make it.<br /> <br /> It could be a guardian to a dwarven citadel, standing outside the doors, most of the guardians have been destroyed and only 10 are left. (possibly max of 2 per army?)<br /> They are in the shape of a dwarf, covered in runes (the runes make them resistant to magic) that glow bright red under their stone skin<br /> They're slow but very tough, maybe they need to be activated by a runelord.<br /> ]]></description>

In the realm of Hordehammer that thing truely would be a great machine to have, and by the math ends up doing just about as many wounds versus, say, orcs as a stonethrower for similar points if you hit the flank and have a bs5 engineer. 				<description><![CDATA[ I think I have to disagree. I see runes as mostly improving the function of an item, not making it into something else. So runes on a statue would make it stronger, not animate it. <br /> <br /> And for technology, I think dwarf tech should mirror real world tech. We cant make flying dragons today. Dwarfs should not either. 				<description><![CDATA[ D&D? Absolutely!<br /> Warhammer? Nope.<br /> <br /> Warhammer dwarfs have great fluff. Any new unit or monster would be 'new' in the fluff. Runic items are relics of an almost forgotten art. Basically, the ancient dwarfs knew a lot more runes of a non-military application (per 6th edition book, thinks like lamps etc). Dwarfs today really know mostly war based runes.  <br /> <br /> So the only place where we see 'new' in dwarf holds is the engineer guild. And even the wacky stuff there should be strictly technological (no warp stone, enchanted pistons, etc.) Runesmiths wont even put a rune common on cannons onto an organ gun. I don't see them "rune-ing up" a steam-punk contraption. <br /> (I don't even see the guild making steam golems)]]></description>

The result is a steam engine that bellows out fumes of beer.<br /> Type: Monster (the engineer cannot be singled out)<br /> M* WS4 BS4 S6 T6 W5 In2 A1 Ld9 Save 2+<br /> Impact Hits: 1D6<br /> Thunder Stomp (being driven over)<br /> Weapons: Crushing tracks and a brace of pistols.<br /> Movement isn't exact in these brew engines. Our largest model in the last army book was the Bone Giant, now we have things like the Necrosphinx/Warsphinx and Necropolis Knights/Seprulchul Stalkers. O&G got some sorta giant spider thing-a-majigger<br /> <br /> I honestly think he was making a speculation based on the size of the new creatures coming out in the lastest Army books.]]></description>

How about:<br /> <br /> Rare, 20pts/model<br /> M3 WS5 BS3 S4 T4 W1 I3 Ld10<br /> <br /> <b>Unbreakable</b><br /> <b>Skirmish</b><br /> <b>Slayer:</b> must either declare a charge or move as close as possible to a unit that contains Monstrous Infantry, Monstrous Cavalry, or Monsters. The bonus to strength applies before weapon bonuses?<br /> <b>Slayer Axes</b><br /> <b>Runic Tattoos:</b> (either MR1 and a 5+ Ward versus shooting and magic missiles, or MR1 and a 5+ Ward versus attacks of S4 or less)<br /> <b>Slayer Vow: </b>one auto-hit against the model that killed 'em.<br /> <br /> I see something like this functioning as Skaven Plague Censer Bearers that are, depending on the situation, either (a) more durable and less devastating, or (b) as durable and more devastating. Situation "b" is pretty narrow, and they cost a bit more.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ I like the idea. Personally I still want to see both Runic Stone Golems, and some kind of Automatons. And as it was stated both very plainly, but accurately above, Dwarfs are not too keen on new ideas. Though it may not be favorable by many, I think that idea lore wise may need to be phased out slightly. Especially if it means the difference between seeing new units and lore in the new army book, and seeing more of the same.]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Dwarf combat: there's the grumpy, stubborn warrior-class who hates everything new, and then there's the grumpy, unhinged Engineers who build contraptions.<br /> <br /> I think that, if we can expect to see anything new, it'll be in the form of something from the Engineer's guilds.<br /> <br /> I re-wrote the Dwarf fandex when my friend became bored with "how many units of Big Axes/small-arms fire/war machines should I take?", which is essentially the limit of the Dwarf book, minus some really gimmicky concepts and the Anvil+Miners/Rangers.<br /> <br /> Among the changes were:<br /> <br /> - giving Organ Guns and Flame Cannons Rune-options.<br /> - making Flame Cannons playable.<br /> - making Slayers awesome.<br /> - blasting charges for Miners that work like the Skaven Warp-grinder or Tomb King's Buried Beneath the Sands.<br /> - a zepplin that can be upgraded to a Gyrocopter and/or to drop casks of gunpowder.<br /> - a Rune magic-Lore .]]></description>
