using foundation paints question

Well it has begun, after 6 years of not touching 40k ive strarted again, but ive run into a interesting snag.

back in the day i knew we needed to water down our paints to get a nice thin coat.

but with the foudation paints(khemri brown) over a choas black base, ive found that i can still see some black (yes it was a even coat)

now my question is.... is it a good idea to water down the foundation paint (1:3 ratio)

edit: after drying it does look totally different.. but i can still see a few slips. for now im going to remedy this by doing a thin coat over the first.

but my question still remains

using foundation paints question

The Privateer Press modeling/painting DVD suggests a 1:8 ratio, and I've been trying to stick with that as much as I can with eyeballing. Seems to work well. Any less and it all just goes in the cracks, which isn't good for my fluorescent paint (the flat places barely have paint on them and the cracks are built up with blazing neon).

Re:using foundation paints question

Thanks guys i figured it out last night by the posts!

i was doing 1:1 for the foudation, but i relized that it was like a choas black in the bottle, so i gave it more of a shake it it became the shade i needed.

it did take 2 coats of it to smooth it all out, thank god i tested it on the pilot for my project and not the acual vehicle itself.

al least one good thing came from it (i found a colour i was looking for)

from now on though ill try a 1:2 ratio (water:paint) and see where that takes me.

also i am sorry about the noobish question but its been about 4-6 years since i painted my tau.

and this foundation paint is kinda new to me.. but seems like its just normal paint.
