				<description><![CDATA[ Despite being 25 points, I like them. A carnifex is Initiative one anyway, and those extra attacks seem worth it to me. So what does dakka think about them?  Also, are toxin sacs worth anything on carnifexes? They seem pretty pointless, since you wound everything on like a 2+ anyway :3<br /> <br /> (new to tyranids, excuse me)]]></description>

Here's your mathhammer(assumming 4+ To Hit)...<br /> <br /> 2xScything Talons=3 hits(2 hits on 4 attacks on initial roll,1 additional hit on the reroll)<br /> <br /> 1xScything Talons+Crushing Claws=3.5 hits(average Claw bonus of 2 attacks,3 hits on 6 attacks on Initial roll,1 50/50 reroll,hence the .5)<br /> <br /> 25 points simpy isn't worth an extra .5 hit per close combat,especially when you're losing I3 on the charge due to Living Battering Ram.<br /> <br /> Toxin Sacs actually aren't an upgrade at all,per the mathhammer,in most all circumstances(assuming 2+ to Wound)<br /> <br /> Strength 9=83.3% chance to wound,pops T4 or less<br /> <br /> Toxin Sacs(4+)=75% chance to wound<br /> <br /> Adrenal Glands are way better than Toxin Sacs for a 'fex.  Combining Furious Charge and Living Battering Ram,you can get I4 on a charge,which will get you to simu-strike against most creatures.  S10 on a charge is also helpful for vehicle penetration and popping T5.<br /> <br /> ]]></description>

Plus, stranglethorn cannons are cool.]]></description>

Stranglethorn Cannon is great against horde armies,like Orcs.  Heavy Venom Cannon is better if you play against a lot of mechanized armies,but you may not neccessarily need it if your army has plenty of other transport busting units,like Hive Guard and Zoeys.  If you have good anti-tank already,you may want to use the Stranglethorn Cannon instead,and use those units to bust transports and then use the 'fex to drop a pie plate on them.  ]]></description>

Pretty worthless and actively gimping the one major advantage a Carnifex has over the huge majority of the rest of the codex, frag spines.<br /> <br /> Now a Tervigon with crushing claws on the other hand is altogether different. You can't lose initiative with him anyway. Take him as a Troops choice, use the Hive Tyrant to outflank him and when he comes on against static vehicle gun-line type armies (looking at you <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(69);'>IG</span>) he's doing monstrous creature rear armor penetration with extra attacks, squatting on an objectives they place on their side of the board and polluting the deployment zone with spawned gaunts.<br /> <br /> Fun stuff when used in the right lists.]]></description>

In the mean time I've found four uses for the Crushing Claw bitz other than being used as Crushing Claws, and the only thing I've pointed to have them are my Tervigons, who are modeled more as Crushing Jaws. It is amusing when people charge the Tervigon and then go wait, it has How many attacks?]]></description>

Fex--when he charges, he hits on equal I with marines (in case I need to ram some berzerkers) and gets that delicious S10 for tank-popping.  <br /> <br /> Trygons are hilarious against all manner of infantry, especially when they regenerate, but C. The Carnifex is there as an expensive generalist, to stunlock vehicles, snipe at Specials/sergeants, countercharge superunits (screen against the big Battlewagon Nob unit of doom with a skirmish line of Termagants) or finish off vehicles. ]]></description>

				<description><![CDATA[ Theoreticaly the only reason to go with crushing claws on a carnifex is when taking the heavy weapon shooty options (<span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(443);'>HVC</span> and stranglethorn).  Otherwise there's really no point to adding them, because you aren't gaining much for the points, ontop of losing I3/4 on the charge which something figured into a carnifexes cost as well.  <br /> <br /> Now, whether that 210 multipuprose carnifex is worth the cost is another matter.  I would say no personally but I am not a fan of <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(443);'>HVCs</span> or stranglethorns to begin with.]]></description>

I let her use them as other <span class="glossaryitem" onmouseover='gp(19);'>Cc</span> weapons if she wants as long as she tells me what they are. Sometimes Ive seen the extra attacks actually be worth it, but yea, it seems to me that 25pts for those is a bit of a waste, especially on something as powerful as a carnifex]]></description>
