Choosing an Army.

I want to start a new WHFB army, but I just can't decide.

I would prefer a small but powerful army, which would lead me to either any elf army or Ogres, but I have reasons why I don't like any of these.

High Elves: Almost all good-looking plastic models, which is a pro, but I really don't like their fluff.
Dark Elves: Great-looking modes, good fluff, but almost all metal, and I absolutely hate working with metal models.
Wood Elves: Pretty crap models, crap fluff, out of date.
Ogre Kingdoms: Great models, with plenty of conversion potential. Con is crap fluff.

I can't decide between any army, really. I was leaning to either Ogres or Dark Elves, but I don't want to commit to anything until I decide properly.

Any suggestions?

Another option to consider is Chaos Mortals (or whatever the current nomenclature is) you'll have generally very few models, but they will be bloody powerful.

Of the ones you listed, I'd probably go with the Dark Elves, simply because both the the look of the models and the background details are cool.

As to the metal vs plastic thing, Warriors, Corsairs & Cold One Knights are all plastic, and you're definitely going to be needing those in your army.

I gues sit depends on setups. Theyre a solid core that can be customized with weapons/marks for whatever close combat roles you want.

Cerebrium wrote:That was another I considered, but as much as I hear, the only way they're good these days is with big blocks of Saurus.

Yes the standard LM list is slaan with TG and 2 saurus blocks but the rest is open to intepretation, monster spam is harder to win with this ed but LM are the only army that can really still do it, and against canonless armies (so all but 2 all armies in existance) it tends to be devastating.
I won't go into some expanded tactics here but light magic + saursus + monsters = resilient troops with stompy flankers. Also the sallamander is likely one of the most undercosted units in 8th, being able to march and still unleash that fire thrower shot on the enemy large blocks is just naaasty.
