When I got to the WoC I saw a possible unintended ruling, not sure though since I don't have the WoC rulebook as this might be explained in it.

Q: Can a model with the Third Eye of Tzeentch cast any spells from
the Lore of Life as the lore attribute allows him to recover Wounds
lost earlier in the battle? (p111)
A: Yes, apart from Regrowth. The lore attribute’s effect is not
part of the spell itself.

This is obviously meant to solve the issue with regaining wounds to another model by stealing a lore of life spell.
My question is...since lore attribute's aint part of the spell you "borrow", this will count for all lores. So Fire spells won't be flaming...and most metal spells can't wound since the wounding process is in the lore attribute. I think this is right on. Any other interpretation, as the OP points out, make lore of metal not function.
