I'm going to SVDM! Ok, advice please.

Hello. SO, I'm in New York City for work from the 21st Feb, so I decided to combine this with a little hobby trip and play in an AMERICAN tournament. I'm booked into The St. Valentine's Day Massacre which runs the weekend after, the 26th/27th Feb. I'll probably be bringing my all-Slaanesh Daemon army, since it all fits in one handy, small case and i have to fly with it and a load of work equipment.

I'd love some travel advice from some locals. Here's my plan...

I'm working until around 10pm on Friday 25th in Manhattan
Check-in for the Tournament is 9am on Saturday 26th, in Media, PA.
Tournament lasts until the afternoon of Sunday 27th
My flight leaves JFK for London in the evening of Monday 28th.

My current plan is to hire a car for the weekend and drive down from NYC. Is that a better idea than flying? It seems that, if I flew, I'd have to hire a car at Philadelphia anyway, and Google Maps says that it's only a couple of hours drive.

Should I leave late on Friday night or early on Saturday morning? Any traffic/travel issues? Does anyone know when the event ends on Sunday? Maybe I should drive back to NYC Sunday night? I dunno.

What does Dakka think?

Good to hear you're coming to SVDM, I'll likely be there as well (much shorter travel for me tho)

You have a couple options:
Rent a car as you said and drive to Philly, however leaving Manhattan on friday during rush hour is likely to be a nightmare, and probably will take much longer than google maps indicates. I'd suggest leaving later (8pm) and then coming down, or early saturday morning.

You can also look into Amtrak to take a train from NYC to philly, roundtrip is (roughly) ~130 dollars, and takes a little over an hour. From there you can probably take a cab or rail out closer to Media (Mikhalia can comment on specifics or any other Philly resident).

There is also the greyhound bus system which runs between the two cities as well.

Renting the car is probably the best option, and waiting until the rush hour traffic has a bit of time to clear out. I'd suggest coming down on Friday, as if you have any problem, you can sort it easier on Friday, vs. being late for game one on Saturday.

Grey Hound and trains not as good an option, since were a bit out from Center City. Too many transfers and a lot of time. By car it's only a couple of hours.

I haven't set the schedule up yet for sunday, but with 2 games and an early start, we are probably ending in the 5pm timeframe. Pretty easy to get back to NYC that night, or stick and drink with us and head back Monday morning. Give a call if I can help with anything. 610 891 9229

Great, thanks guys. Looks like driving might be best

I finish working around 10 PM on Friday night, which I suppose is good to avoid rush hour traffic.

I'll book into the tournament recommended hotel...

Good call. At that time of night traffic will be mild. The recommended hotel is right across from the mall, inexpensive and reasonably comfortable, and there's a Denny's right in the parking lot for a cheap and convenient breakfast.

Why these adjectives are missing is left to the reader's imagination.

I generally find it perfectly palatable. Not impressive in any way, but okay.

The one Brit with whom I've repeatedly eaten there seems to love it, though.
