Two High Elf Lists

Hey everyone, I have two High Elf Lists that are tad different for your critics and suggestions. My ideas for these armies is that they are made of troops from the outer provinces of Ulthuan. So I will have troops from Tiranoc, Nagarythe, Chrace, and Colthique. Both lists have swordmasters that fluff wise came with the archmage who commands the army. The second list as Ellyrian Reavers that have come to support the army. So that means no Phoenix Guard. Also going with my no characters rule, no Teclis.

Here is the first of the two list.

Lords
Archmage
Level 4, Both of Hoeth (most likely to go with the sea guard block
360

Heros
Mage
Level 2, Annulian Crystal (not sure where to put him

Noble
Battle Standard Bearer, Dragon Armour, Shield, Banner of the World Dragon (goes with the sea guard block
178

Noble
Extra Hand Weapon, Longbow, Shadow Armour, Guardian Phoenix (goes with the shadow warriors
149

Noble
Great Weapon, Armour of Protection (goes with the white lions
138

Core
40 Lothern Sea Guard (Fluff wise they are marines from Toc Achare in Cothquie, I love the new seaguard minis and I do not care for the normal spearmen models)
Full Command, Shields, Banner of Eternal Flame
555

15 Archers
Hawkye, Musician, Light Armour (to fill out the core requirements
195

Special

5 Ellyrian Reavers (my light cavlary, goes on the flanks possibly to work with the chariots.
Harbinger, Musician, Bows
119

Lion Charoit (goes on a flank
140

Tiranoc Chariot (another flanker
85

8 Shadow Warriors (scouts goes after war machines, or puts up in woods and shoots with longbows
Shadow Walker
140

20 Sword Masters (goes on a flank of the sea guard
Full Command
330

20 White Lions (goes on the other flank of the sea guard
Full Command
330

Great Eagle
50

Great Eagle (for both of them, they hunt warmachines
50

The second list
The only difference between the two lists is that I drop the reavers for a second Tiranoic Chariot and the White Lions get the Lion standard (Unit is immune to Fear and Terror) and the sword masters get the Banner of Ellyrion (unit automatically passes diffucllt terrian tests).

As for tactics, I have the seaguard block in the center with the lions and swordmasters on each flank charging forward, my mages try to produce a good magic phase, while the chariots and or reavers cover the flanks of the infantry. Chariots get impact hits to help with the combats, while the archers stay put or move as needed while providing bow shots. The shadow warriors go for war machines or find a nice place to shoot their bows from and join in combat as needed. Eagles hunt war machines or join combat as necessary.
Well thanks for reading this and please tell me what ya'll thing of it.

Re:Two High Elf Lists

Q: What Lores are you giving the Mages?

Thoughts:

For a 3k List, it seems like you have very few numbers. Unless you're short of models, I would really recommend fitting in more numbers rather than spending on some of the upgrades you've purchased. For example: Drop the Hawkeye and Light Armor on the Archers and bump them up to 20-strong (you'll need to fish out another 30 points). It'll give you a slightly more reliable shooting phase and a slightly more resilient unit.
Drop the Harbinger on the Reavers and the Shadow Walker on the Shadow Warriors. Scrounge up some points somewhere to run 2 units of 5 Shadow Warriors instead for more versatility.

If you're running a BoH Archmage, the Banner of Sorcery is crucial. You _need_ to have the consistent magic phase to make proper use of the BoH. The White Lions would probably be the best place to hold the Banner of Sorcery.

Where to get the extra points? Drop the extra heroes. As nice as our heroes are, they're kind of pricey for what they can do/provide, and imo, you're usually better off spending the points on more troops.

Let's go over your choices:
Archmage - Your General; Book of Hoeth isn't my favorite option, but it's a strong choice, but one that needs to be built around given that you're spending all of your Magic Item allotment on it leaving your Archmage completely defenseless.

Lvl2 - Useful for enemy magic phases, but otherwise, unlikely to be doing much. Ideally, your Archmage will be using up all of your Power Dice every turn (more dice, more likelihood of getting IF). You could save points by keeping him at Lvl1 and taking High Magic. Worst case, he has Shield of Saphery and Drain Magic to cast, which isn't bad, and ideally, you want him to stay hidden away somewhere so that you can keep use of the Annulian Crystal.

BSB - Unless you have no points for it, great weapons should be de facto for any HE fighting character. Even if you don't have the points, usually it's worth getting rid of something else for the Great Weapon. Not much else to say since you're opting for a Magic Banner.

Shadow Armor Noble - While I see what you want to do with this guy, I'm not keen on him. 6+/5+ is not stellar and if you're just hunting warmachines or harassing units with light bowfire, there're better uses for 149 points. IMO, Shadow Armor is only really worthwhile coupled with the Reaver Bow, but at that point, you have to invest in a Lord. Personally, I would drop this guy and focus on bulking up the rest of your troops.

Noble - while he adds killiness to your unit of White Lions, you're better off just getting more of them. This guy << 9 White Lions.

Now. Dropping the two last nobles, you free up 287 points. Use these to get:
* Banner of Sorcery
* Bump up Archers to 20 (dropping Hawkeye and Light armor)
* 2 units of 5 Shadow Warriors
* More #'s here and there. I would almost suggest trying to upgrade the Tiranoc to a second White Lion Chariot. A 3rd Great Eagle wouldn't hurt either.
