Death From the Skies! Mercurial's Blog

Hey everybody,

I've been bumming around the forum for close to three years now, content to lurk people's logs and make up ridiculous army lists to be torn apart in the tactics forum. However, with a sudden influx of new opponents at my college, I am again motivated to grind the gears of progress back in to motion. As I suffer from a severe case of ADOS (Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!) this will be a combination blog of three interrelated projects:

The building of an Imperial Guard Drop Troops Army (using the list in IA 8)

The refurbishing of my beloved Raven Guard (pretty standard battle company, codex markings)

Finally, the haphazard construction of the 411th Birmingham (a siege troops army based on the latest Death Korps rules) when I get sick of the light and fast aesthetic and need to build me some big guns!

First up, however, will be my drop troops. I haven't named them yet, but I want to give them a Viking theme as I really like Vikings and I really want to reinforce them being a heavy planetary assault regiment, with none of this pussyfooting around that the Elysians prefer. Essentially the plan is to mount 2-3 squads in Valkyries with locator beacons, and using them to accurately call down heavy assault squads.

So without further flapping of the gums, here's my first batch of test models (taken on crappy webcam):

This will be the most common type of trooper, equipped with a shotgun, carapace armor, and eventually this particular grunt will be receiving a meltabomb.

This is a simple sergeant conversion. The old Warzone sculpts I'm using have a very nice degree of poseability with a little finesse, though the lack of variations in the legs is a bit maddening. We'll just say it's their combat landing position or something.

Here's the lascutter trooper, with appropriate extra armor plating. He'll serve to slice and dice vehicles and MCs and such, and will be damn handy when I'm using these guys to stand in as Navy Armsmen. It's a bad angle, but the bit on the end is a missile launcher muzzle with gun shield from the IG heavy weapons sprue. I shall try to get a better shot later.

Here's a member of a lasgun squad, equipped with his locator beacon. I used a lot of parts from the Catachan kit for these guys, including the compact vox pack, lascarbine and combat knife and cantine.

A better shot of the locator beacon.

Finally, a shot of all of my converted lasgun troopers. There will only be eight standard lasguns in the army spread amongst two squads, and they may end up getting auxiliary grenade launchers.
