I'll have to reserve judgement on Spiderman, thought the single image they have on IMDB is quite "grimdark" (though I never cared much for Dr. Connor, and never even knew of the Proto-Goblin). He was in one issue from a comic series that has has multiple issues a month and has been around for almost 50 years; even most die hard fans were confused.
